The AMG version (http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans/1106_2012_mercedes_benz_cls63_amg_test/viewall.html) with the optional performance package is as fast as the V. Though, with an as-tested price of $139,615, could buy two Vs for the money. Still, the car is definitely a looker (which is pretty rare for Mercedes-Benz).

The 2012 redesign adds a much more aggressive take on what was already a very striking looking car. If anything, it looks like it was inspired by old 1950s conceptions of what future airplanes and rockets would look like.

The brochure says the perf package adds about 40 hp and takes .1 off the 0-60.

The one I drove was 102M and felt as fast as the V. In my short time with it, I felt the Benz is worth every cent of the premium.

Don't forget how much additional power they can get out of that twin-turbo platform. I know RennTech has already been doing some work on a new TT S63 and the gains are impressive.

Help me out here, what's 99M? Is that $99k as in $99,000? Does that include the performance package? Note that Mercedes-Benz finance has pretty good lease rates on the AMG CLS63 which, given how fast AMG cars depreciate, is the only way to go:

2011 Mercedes CLS63 AMG
24 Month – Residual 60% of MSRP – .00240 Base Rate
36 Month – Residual 51% of MSRP – .00240 Base Rate
48 Month – Residual 45% of MSRP – .00240 Base Rate
60 Month – Residual 39% of MSRP – .00240 Base Rate

yes... M=1,000.

yes... M=1,000.

Yep use "M" everyday in finance to denote 1,000

In finance, MM is used to denote millions.

Less common is the notation M for thousands or MMM for billions.

I'm in love with the redesigned CLS, stunning car. I wouldn't mind a '12 E63 in Arctic White with the 5.5 biturbo and the performance package, but I feel that the V coupe just has a much more striking look than the E.

The CLS is much more pleasing to me then the new E.I disagree. As with the old CLS and old E, the E is better looking and proper. No wannabe coupe stuck as a sedan. Just give me the damn sedan and stop pretending...

Haha, well said. The whole "4-door coupe" thing seems like MB is reaching, even though the design sells well and is an all-around success. But why not just call it a damn good looking sedan?

Nice car but I prefer the CTS V coupe's looks over the CLS AMG ...

the balance of the CTS V coupe is better and more strking looking...IMO

I like the MCT transmission of the mercedes best though..

and of course BMW's new 6 series M four door coupe is a winner too...

Mercedes styling is nice but unbalanced compared to the new BMW 4 door coupe or the traditional 2 door CTS V...

I'm not a big fan of the latest cls styling. Its getting too close to the hundai styling or vice versa.

MB IMO are bland, I realize I owned a 05' CL65 amg and the body style has changed, but so blaah. Interior blah, drove like a marshmallow. What was fun? V12 bi-turbo, tuned by speedriven to 680/790....and depreciation,,,, car was $188k new, I bought 5 years later, 37k miles on clock with full warranty, cost $41k. I was never confident in driving car hard, awful understeer. If I mashed gas pedal, the rear would fishtail because car didn't come with LSD. 1st and last MB I will ever own.

I can't wait for the new BMW M5. My dealer is begging me to "cross over"......... :)

Seriously looking at the CLS and F10 M5 when my lease ends in 2 years.
It's going to depend what happens with the next V3.
Probably going with the M5.

PS...Test drove the new 650. Nice car with good power. But way overpriced. Could not disable traction control completely and unable to get any wheel spin despite numerous attempts.
There was a review I believe on Edmunds that mentions "smoky burnouts". Was going to reply BS...

i have a deposit on one and am in line to be the first in my state. was planning euro delivery and my wife went out and got herself knocked up. when the f10M hits, the baby will only be a couple months old.

not sure though... really on the fence about it. could end up with a gcsrt8 or v-wagon (short-term lease)...

Talk about bland, boring styling the M5 has nothing. The V is by far the best looking most interesting sedan on the market save the Aston Martin Rapide.

At the risk of sounding like a Top Gear episode, I'd throw the Maserati Quattroporte in the top 2 - 3 as well.
