: 1970 Deville coupe 472 Belt problems...

Tried to use the search function, but it brought me to this section. This year requires 3 belts. 2 for the PS and AC and 1 for the alt and water pump. If im not mistaken. Well I can not find anywheres of how to run them, no picture diagram or anything. The belts popped so I could not reffer to the car as a guide. Any information would be helpful at this point.

Here's a shot from FSM, (A) Alternator and WP belt, (B) 2 (two) AC and PS belts running side by side. Hope this helps.

Should not be there an A.I.R. pump? See this pic from the 1969 FSM and check which configuration has your car:

If it was this, you need 4 belts with the above specifications. You can order the belts you need from Rockauto. ItŽs easy as you can search item by make, year and model. To see which option you need see which pic matches with your car.

Mine seems to be the first one. Thing is, the belts I got will not go around the Compressor, PS and Crank pulleys. Guess they gave me the wrong belts???

Did you loose nut and screws securing steering pump? You need doing that to ease belt installation.

Yes, loosened everything. Pump is as close in as you can get it. All I can think is that they gave me the belts for no A/C. =(

Then, youŽll have to measure with a rope which length range will fit and go to the shop to change it. Be sure the other belt is ok.

Well it was the wrong belts. I have no idea how they were that far off. But bad luck strikes again, they only had 1 in stock. Lol. So have to wait till Tuesday. Thank everyone for the help and diagrams!!! Liking this place already!! I posted a few pics in the RWD picture section if anyone wants to check it out.

I know I'm TOTALLY necroposting on this, but that belt diagram is EXACTLY what i needed. Just inherited a 69 Sedan DeVille and needed belt diagram :D Now I know exactly what I need instead of guessing.

1969 and 1970 had Different belt arrangements.

1970 was the Only year back then WITHOUT an AIR pump (yea!!).

1969 used 4 belts:
2 for the AC & PS (or just PS) (59.5" with AC or 48.0" without
1 for the Fan and AIR pump 45.5"
1 for the Altrnator (off a 2nd fan pulley) 35.5"

It's easy to convert a 68 or 69 to the 1970 3 belt setup. You just need the 1970 Crank pulley (3 pulleys with the 3rd one further out than 1968 or 69) and the 1970 single fan pulley.

The 3rd belt on the 1970 is 50.5"

I've got a seized ac pump so I'm bypassing it with a shorter belt to the ps pump. I wasn't sure of the length so the diagram on this confirmed the 48 length I need hehe
