Hi,

The Mary Kay Edition or "Pink Cadillacs" intrigue me, even though I am a man of 30 years old.

The first official Mary Kay Cadillac was produced in 1968, and she officially rewarded her top salespeople with one in 1969. Originally these were painted Mountain Laurel so as to match the eye and lip color swatches of Mary Kay Cosmetics. But in 1980 the pink shade was solely an MKC thing, and every MK Cadillac is owned by that qualified salesperson for two years and then before it is to be re-sold the MK hue must be repainted to a different color (usually white).

Does anyone remember whether or not there were 4-door Fleetwood Brougham (d'Elegance) sedans in Mary Kay Pink (Mountain Laurel) in the 1977-1979 and 1980-1985 periods? I did see a 1976 Coupe DeVille in Mountain Laurel on Flickr.

In other words, is it true that a Mary Kay Cadillac could be had in any of the following trim levels? List:
*Coupe/Sedan DeVille
*Fleetwood coupe/sedan/60 Special/75 limo
*Fleetwood Brougham coupe/sedan/60 Special/75 limo
*Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance coupe/sedan/60 Special/75 limo
(60 Special sedans discontinued for 1977; trim would not return until 1987, which is two model years after the introduction of the front-drive DeVille/Fleetwood line)

From 1978 to December 1984, all RWD Cadillacs could be had with the 5.7 Oldsmobile diesel V8 engine, but many people declined to specify it due to its storied reliability. I wonder how many MKC Cadillacs had diesel engines?

Thank you,

Ben Edge (classictvman81x)

Excuse me, but I was trying to ask: "Were there any 1977-79/1980-85 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance sedans done up in Mary Kay Pink?"

Hi Ben,

FYI, diesel in the deVille/Fleetwood started mid year 1979.

Interesting fascination you have with these pink cars. Do you own one?

No, but if I did I'd be forced to change the exterior paint so it is no longer MK Pink.

Uh, why the heck would you do that!?

You just said: ""Pink Cadillacs intrigue me"...but if you had one you'd repaint it!? http://serve.mysmiley.net/rolleye/rolleye0011.gif Oookaay :cookoo:

Speaking for myself, I've never really cared for the '77-79 body style, so the only research i've ever bothered to do is for 1980-85 & 1990-96. That being said I can only answer part of your inquiry. 1980-84 Mountain Laurel was only available on the Coupe DeVille model only. 322 were ordered for 1980 & were available with many options. They switched to 4-doors in 1985 & only 18 were done.

So in other words if you found/bought one & its survived this long...DON'T repaint it! Pass on it. Let someone who appreciates these cars/color have it.

Oh, & gotta give credit where credit is due. The info above comes directly from an old member of this forum. It's a shame he doesn't log in here anymore, as he was a real asset to this forum. His MK knowledge was unrivaled.

What I meant was that for actual MKC employees, once they're done with their cars, there is a rule that suggests the cars must be repainted before reselling, right? That now makes me wonder -- how many ex-MKC Cadillacs were not repainted before resale?

That's the 10 million dollar question right there! Something I've always wondered about myself. More importantly, for those like myself who really want one, How many more are left out there?

It all depended on the sales lady. Mary Kay would only lease the vehicle to them & make the payments on it for her. After her two years were up she could do one of two things: put the vehicle in her name & take over the payments for the remaining cost (keeping the color) Or: return the vehicle to the dealership, where yes, they would proceed to repaint it white before resale.

Needless to say it all makes these cars all the more rarer. I mean, as you can see, they had super low production numbers as it is. Then you figure, just as a generous estimate, we'll just say, one out of two ladies kept the car. Now those same numbers have immediatly been cut in half. Then take into account 25 plus years on the road minus 4100 catastrophes, totaled, stolen, etc, etc....Well, lets just say that you got yourself something special if you own one.

Oh, & that '75-76 Coupe you posted up, I'm pretty sure is NOT a Mary Kay car. Mountain Laurel has always been a very light pastel pink. That one is WAAAAY to Pepto Bismol like.

Just because a Cadillac is pink, doesn't necessarily mean its a Mary Kay car.

How many people actually remember the very first Pink Cadillac that Elvis Presley (1935-77) drove? It is a 1959 Eldorado Seville 4-door sedan with bodywork from Pininfarina of Italy. Perhaps that '66 Cadillac Mary Kay saw wasn't the only example that led her to give her top-ranked executives (whether female or male, and I am the latter) a pink Cadillac Coupe DeVille?
