: Damaged chin spoiler...

Alright, It finally happened, I took out a chin spoiler on a parking block. The dealer wants to sell a kit for $230 that includes all three front pieces. That seems a bit steep. Could real carbon fiber be that much more? Any suggestions to cut the cost down a bit?

^^^ - Check with Luke at Lindsay Cadillac for a much better price, (about half of what you were quoted), for the parts, (includes all 3 pieces). If you have a lift or ramps, it's not hard to do the job yourself.

i just bought a 10k mile used sedan, and someone here realized my 3 piece spoiler was gone--i didn't even realize it. you can get the kit on here for around $150. i paid my dealer $170 for the kit, and installation. $250 is too much

Wow - I must have gotten a good deal then at my Cadillac dealer parts department... I paid $138 for the kit (can't buy pieces individually) and installed the piece I needed in less than 5 minutes. If you do a little searching, you will find this deal... if you can't find it, I will set you up with the parts guy at my dealer.

Call Luke at Lindsay. it is about $120 shipped for the kit.

When I priced it through Lindsay, it was $120, but the shipping cost made it much higher than me just buying it locally. Plus, my dealer had them in stock to buy that same day.

I put carbon fiber on the front of my VCoupe. I have the factory stuff. If you are interested PM me and we'll see what we can do. I think I paid $150 parts and labor to replace the factory stuff once; the carbon fiber is $795.

is this just those 2 POS gray plastic pieces on both sides?

Yes my question too. I cringe everytime I pull in to a parking sport with curbs thinking what is it going to cost me if the curb is a little high and I hit it with the bumper. I am curious what it will cost me if the front air dam is damaged from a curb.

When I bought my car, the driver side was broken. At least it is a wear item. Not sure if I will ever pop for the $800 carbon fiber versions :)

FYI - checked my invoice from Lindsay - $116 plus $12 shipping for $128 which is a fair prive. I also like to send him as much business as possible since he helps support this forum.

The carbon fiber chin is actually 3 pieces. The middle piece extends out as far as the two outside pieces, and I personally think it is a better look than the factory stuff. Of course, one encounter with a curb will have me crying.

Why don't you back into those spots? Then at least you have the camera to tell you how close you are.

What camera?

You know, the rear view camera that came with our cars....duh.

*end joke*

Seriously, I've been through one set of these and now need another. I wish we had a front view camera. I now end up parking a foot away from the curb because I'm afraid of getting too close and ripping off part of the front lower valence, not just the trim pieces.

And yes, you don't even need ramps or a lift for this. Just lay on the ground and do it. 10 minute job.

Laying on the floor is easy...getting back up at my age is the problem...this time I just used a mirror...easier for sure.

Three pieces but you have to buy all three...they come in a package.

Agree...I found the same. The photo is the chin spoiler for the CTS not the V.

I think that is a *stock photo*. You would have to call and confirm the part number, but a great deal nonetheless.

Has anyone looked into a front bumper proximity sensor or camera for our V's? I've seen a few aftermarket sensors out there but they all look like they are meant to detect walls, not low objects like parking blocks?

Has anyone installed this or seen it in use? I contacted Brandmotion because I was interested in uisning their replacement rearview mirror with built in LED screen designed for use as a backup camera. Was hoping for a way to wire in a front facing camera. They wouldn't comment on that modification but offered this product solution.

Has anyone ordered the RockAuto part? I just f'ed my trim up tonight and need to get this. I'm concerned that I may get the wrong thing since there doesn't seem to be a reference to the V in the part and the picture is wrong.

Houdini
12-14-11, 08:39 PM
Yes, there are a few threads on this. It is correct even though the stock picture looks otherwise. It comes in a gigantic box with a much more appropriate sized box inside. All 3 pieces are included.

I didn't think it looked right either so I got the part number 25882978 from my dealer. Mine is on the way from Rockauto.

It's such a smoking deal I might need to buy one as a spare. You know it's bad when rock-auto freaking has it as a common-stock item. lol.

Replaced the front pieces with the Rock Auto supplied replacement pieces on my "new to me '11 Vagon" and took a couple quick pix. Very easy swap, just need a 8mm nut driver and a trim plug puller (cheap ones from Harbor Freight work well). 8412484125

I did it with the nut driver and a flat screwdriver. I need to invest in that trim plug puller. Do they have spare plugs too at HF?

If you just damaged the plastic pieces a heat gun works wonders. Did the same thing on my 2012 vagon when it was a week old....

Take them of and take heat gun and you can reform it. Where the plastic pieces slide into the slots just use super glue to repair the pot metal piece.

Honestly in works...mine came out and u cannot een tell anything happened.

I found out about yhis on this forum.

Has anyone tried spray painting there damaged ones in a glossy paint to match the body color? I Wonder how that would look.

Sorry about the user name, my other car is an 04 Corvette.
Funny you should ask about painting. Caring for my Vette I learned a great deal about detailing as well as painting to repair nicks and scratches.
I also have a black 2010 CTS-V sedan I purchased last July. Last weekend I reshaped some damage to the right front trim using hot tap water in my utility room sink. Rubber kitchen gloves will protect your hands from the heat. Then I sanded out the gouges left by the concreate using 50 grit, then 120, then 220 and finally 320 grit sand paper. A sanding mouse (shaped like a small iron) helps speed this up. I then painted all three pieces with black rattle can plastic paint. This I followed with a small spray gun using black touch up paint from Autozone. The touch up paint comes in a bottle not much bigger than a tube of lipstick. I just dumped the whole thing in my gun and used some reducer I have on hand to thin it. A hobby shop air brush would work just as well though. The plastic paint bonds to the trim and the auto paint bonds to the plastic paint. Be sure to scuff the plastic paint before you put on the auto paint. I think it looks great blacked out up against my black car.

Depending on how bad it's damaged, you can fix it. I pulled all three pieces off, sanded out the gouges and Plasti-Diped them. They look better in black, and you can't tell they were ever damaged...
