WOW, that has to be the only wagon where I'd say the fake wood sides actually look bitchin. Grand Wagoneers can look "bitchin" with the right color as well. Most of the time the fake wood just looks kitsch, like shag carpet and wood paneling in your parents basement. Cheesy and ugly, yes, but in kind of a nostalgic sort of way.

Grand Wagoneers are only awesome in certain color combos. When it is the right color, though, they are pretty cool. You just have to accept them for what they are. Beasts.

I have to agree with Sting on this one, I find Grand Wagoneers to be pretty ugly. While not as ugly as an Aztec (or however it is spelled) but close. The Grand Wagoneer displays all the kitschy-ness that American Motors was famous for in its' day, plus the really poor build quality that AMC was also famous for sixties thru the eighties.

While they may have started several trends as far as functionality they left a lot to be desired as far as design and quality. Back in the early nineties their were still a lot of old Grand Wagoneers present in the "horse world, whether this a result of their unique virtues or their owner's "horse poor" financial status is up for debate. But the Grand Wagoneer disappeared with the advent of the Ford Explorer for the less impecunious and the Range Rover for those better healed. Of course the Jeep was also present in good numbers, especially in dark green!>

I would think the "ultimate" Roomobile would be a 1956 Chrysler New Yorker Town and Country wagon with a big block hemi in it and the front clip from a '56 Chrysler 300C. Of course this would have to be painted bright orange metallic and have an authentic kangaroo fur and broadcloth interior!

Um, it's an Oldsmobile.

Hah! Come on now, did you really think I'd do that?

For shame, Gary. :(

I remember when several of the "financial menaces" that cruised Southern California looking for suckers drove these Cadillac wagons. Several of these owners did time up at the Federal Prison at Lompoc for mail fraud and fraud in general. So yes own a piece of history!

We had an Olds like that when I was a kid. Blue though.

I actually like Station Wagons, but preferably Old ones (Then again, I do not like ANYTHING modern) But on Wagons, I am especially partial to the late fifties GM variety. I almost bought that '58 Olds wagon from my Mechanic once... Even if it IS blue...

There must be more than few of those old Caddy wagons moldering away in garages in Brentwood and Hillsdale!
