Essentially, yes.

It's jsut not as smooth and refined. It's rough running and you also have to deal with starting temperature crap. Not convenient when it is -10f outside.

I'd rock a diesel Cruze, probably before I rocked either of the other available Cruzes.

If we got the coupe in the US I'd be very tempted.

lol, have you driven a modern diesel? The newer diesels are certainly more refined...They run smoother then moderately cammed small blocks... They will still have the starting issues, afaik. At least the VW TDI still does...

Has a nice sound to itIt does. Its also an Inline 6... IMO, their I6 gas sounds far better then GM's V6. GM's V6 isnt the smoothest gas engine, either. Being that itll be in an economy car, I dont see it being the most spectacular diesel.

^ The Cruze diesel should be the same one they have in Europe, which is a 2.0L I4 made by Italian manufacturer VM Motori.

Any reviews on that lump? Is it a good engine? Since the gas engines allready hit 40+ mpg, Im assuming they are aiming for much much higher mpg with this engine (50?), as diesel is the same price giveortake, as gas?

I am allergic to diesel fumes, have been since I was a kid. I got really sick riding the Santa Fe "Super Chief" from L.A. to Chicago ..... puked for two out of the tree days journey! They had the same reaction every time I got into an a place polluted with diesel fumes. The "camel smog" of East Africa didn't affect me nearly as much as a passing diesel FNM truck!

Regular exhaust from gas engines doesn't affect me the same way. I wonder how many other people are affected by diesel fumes?

I've spoken to a few people over the years that get nauseous when they smell diesel exhaust. I for one love the smell.

^ I was driving by an OLD, beat to hell Eagle coach a couple days ago. So ****ing loud when it was pulling up a grade on the interstate, had that unmistakable 2 stroke Detriot Diesel noise and smoke.

For what it's worth an Audi R18 3.7L V6 TurboDiesel won the 24 Hrs Le Mans this year.....

Granted...the sound doesn't turn the heads like the Vettes and the Aston Martins.....but it beat EVERYONE.....the writing is on the wall......

Trust me....if we let the Europeans get the jump on the diesels (and we have)....we'll be chasing them with R&D the next 20 years...

BTW...the Turbo Audi beat ALL these rides below.....

Just wait until they ban it to level the playing field like they did in the 90s with quattro in BTCC :D

I flogged my sister's Golf TDI a little. Lots of low end torque. That lasted until about 3000 rpm when I started checking the fuel gauge to see if it was on empty.

The 335i vs 335d is the best shining example of why diesel in a performance oriented car is such a fail. Now if I was in the market for a 2500-level pickup truck, turbodiesel all the way baby.

Arthur St. Antoine once said that if he was in a blizzard and had to choice between two identical trucks, with a quiet gas idle and one with the deisel, he'd go straight for the deisel. He said, "You just know it will get you through."

If Mercedes had introduced an S Class version of the E320 CDI here at the same time, the Escalade would already be gone...

320lb ft of torque, 40mpg Highway, unparalleled resale value... Sign me up.

The truck's owner sold it to the neighbor, and here is the top comment of this video clip:
"No offense bro but you are real stupid......why the hell would you sell a beauty like that, I would of sold my wife to my neighbor instead of the truck"
