07 ESV. The owners manual says 7,800 pounds. That is also what i have read on the forums BUT my hitch sticker says 5,000 pound w/ 600 tounge pounds weight carrying OR 10,000 pounds w/ 1,000 tounge weight distrubiting.

So what can i tow?!

I tow a 24 ft enclosed snowmobile trailer all over north america and that is just over 7k lbs, big brakes and sway bars really help

Yes but why does my manual & hitch say 2 different things? Which one do i go by or do all 07 hitchs say the same thing?

fmfa0801,

If you would provide me with your VIN, I can tell you what the towing capacity is.

Thank you,

I may be wrong but I would follow the manual's recommended weight. My reasoning would be not what the hitch and frame
could handle but what type of abuse the transmission , differential and engine can handle.

7800 pounds is what I have always seen for the ESV and 8100 for the Escalade.
What is on the hitch sticker is the rating for the hitch not the vehicle.

I did not receive an e-mail. I also can’t get into my inbox to look at any private messages. Could you please send me your VIN again?

Thank you,

Elizabeth, I can not figure out how to send a message on here. Is there a email I can contact you about this?

fmfa0801 you want to go with the manual @ 7800lbs with a maximum GCWR of 14000lbs.

This tow calculator (http://changingears.com/rv-sec-calc-trailer-weight-tt.shtml) will give you a better idea of what you can pull.

The numbers on the hitch are the maximum capacities for a Class III hitch, which is what is installed on your vehicle. As far as towing capacity goes, you need to go by the owners manual which is 7800 lbs for a 2007 ESV.

3 year old thread. I don't think Elizabeth has been here in years.

Your owners manual will tell you, or take a look at the GVWR label in your door jamb.

I thought that you are limited to what ever is the lowest, for instance an escalade can pull 8k lbs but if the hitch or trailer ball isn't rated that high, you can only safely go with what they are rated at. And may been to upgrade those parts to maximize towing to your cars capacity.

So why put a 8100 lbs tow rating when the hitch only says 5000lbs? Shouldn't it be updated to a class IV hitch if there one?
