yeah yeah I know I searched already, clearly I'm just a dumbass lol. Wanted to make sure I have the right cord and such because I cant get this thing to work. When I plug it in it just gives me this message.
"This accessory is not optimized for this iPhone"

From what I read in the owners manual I'm supposed to see a GM symbol, well that never happened. After that I can see the music/songs on my nav screen but the music is still only playing from my iphone none threw the speakers at all.

This is the cord I have.

What am I doing wrong?

Well, is it an iPod or an iPhone? If it's an iPod, I've had great success in resetting the iPod to cure all problems.

You have the correct cord. I also have had problems with my iPhone 4 in the past. Funny thing is when I went to ios 5 about a month ago it started working in my V. Go figure. I have an old 80 Gig iPod classic that I have been using in the V now and it works fine. Also fits nice and snug along the side. Seems like that space was designed to fit that iPod perfectly.

Iphone4, is that the problem?Don't know, I have a 2 generation ago iPod Nano, which resides in my car, and an iPhone 4 which is not allowed to communicate with my system. Could be that the iPhone 4 is not supported. Don't despair, floor it and you won't care. Enjoy one of the best American HP performance cars ever made.
