: Rise of the Red Baron: 3 piece forged COR rims on Michelins

First off, I have to give credit to Tony (Nineball) and Gio at COR for both answering a million questions as I bounced around sizes, fitments, widths, and finishes. I knew I wanted to COR Concord rims, but wanted something different for the finish. I needed a chrome lip to tie in with the chrome on the car that I hadn't vinyl wrapped over. From there, I looked at satin black centers, gloss black, black diamond, gunmetal (always LOVED gunmetal on a reddish car), but couldn't decide. I asked both of those guys about this, that, and the other and looked at hundreds of pics of different wheels with these finishes. I HAD to drive these guys nuts with all of my questions because I'd ordered lots of rims for cars before, but none that were 3 piece that I could fully customize.

I feared that any black rims would be lost in the wheel well and the flanges at the bottom of the spoke were too sexy to not be noticeable. So, I decided on the gunmetal but I still wanted black on there. I'd seen a set of black ones with white trim down the sides of the spokes and I thought that would look tight bh (workaholics ref lol) against the gunmetal in black. I had fears on occasion that it would wash out the gunmetal look though, but I couldn't have been more pleased with the result. The depth of the gloss gunmetal with the black under it is very dimensional in person. Also, I'd only seen one other V with COR wheels and they looked good but I couldn't see a pic straight up the side. He went with more narrow rears and I kept thinking the rims needed pushed out another half inch... Gio and Tony both assured me they were pushed out perfectly and they absolutely were! Once I'd lowered the car, the stock rims were an eyesore to me due to them not being out far enough.

I had decided that I couldn't wait 4-6 weeks (typical me), so through Tony, I offered COR a bonus for a 3 week rush order. I'd also asked them to send me pics of the progress as the engineer in me likes that sort of thing. The 3 weeks flew by and the day before Tony emails me to let me know the rims might not make the 3 week bonus deadline due to the painted trim and the titanium gunmetal powder coat not wanting to cooperate. Gio at COR had warned me from the beginning that could a problem but they'd give it a go if I wanted. So, I'd given up on them being done last week and was fine as I understood what I'd asked them to do was difficult and out of the norm. Lo and behold Tony emails me Wednesday to let me know that busted ass the past couple of days to follow through as promised and get them to me. I was shocked and ecstatic at the same time.

So, I figured I'd get them on Monday, so I didn't rush tires. I already knew what I wanted and they were in stock. I go and check the tracking number and those rims were already leaving FL Wednesday night and would be in Cinci by Friday! More great news, so I worked a deal with Bob Sumerel Tire - my local shop on the price installed and they covered over night shipping. They must get a good break because the tires 2 day shipped to me from Tire Rack were $1450 plus mounting and balancing. They did it for $1600 out the door. When they opened the boxes, the rims were packaged well and looked even better in person than the pics can even do them justice. With the size of the calipers, I really am shocked at the amount of lip COR put on these rims! Of course I forgot to get TMPS for the tires?! Tony not only cross referenced the part numbers to get the dropped off locally but he even sent in instructional word doc with pics to show the slight mod they needed to drill them out for them to seat on the screw. He really was top notch with service and price.

While the wheels were off, I changed out to ceramic pads to reduce the brake dust and it is unbelievable how much difference there is. Well worth the $250 to not have dust bedding on the wheels after a tour around town. The rims and tiers were both extremely well made and well balanced. Each wheel needed less than 1.5oz of weights and 3 were under 0.75oz! For the sizes I got in the rear, that was pretty impressive.

I'd posed the question before if anyone had ever done 20" front and 21" rears and the answer was no and was discredited but to me 21" in the front was too much and 20" in the rear was too small with the line of the rear window coming down and the width of the fender (esp the coupe) over the back wheel... it made 20s look small to me. I'm sure there will be some "traditionalists" that won't like the size differences or the rear vinyl lol (got the idea from the matte white z06x race car that I saw at a car show), but they are awesome on the car. I did 20x8.5" in the front and 21x10.5" in the rear with Michelin PS2s in the front (Super Sports don't come out in any usable size til Q2 2013 when I'd called and talked to Michelin) and the rear I got 295 Super Sports and even with my springs there is NO rub at all. I was able to stay with in 0.2" f/r to the stock OD sizes. My fiance thinks the bigger rims in the back plus the Specter Werkes wing make the car look more like a coupe... and she is right I do kind of see that illusion.

Kudos again to COR for their fitment and Tony for the order and price. I highly recommend them... seriously impressive from start to finish!

How much were the black grilles? What tint did you go with for the windows and tails?

grilles were free... they came with the car lol flat black paint

Ah, okay. So it was just paint from a can? No clear coat?
What about the window tint and tails?

haterinc
07-23-11, 05:18 PM
tint is ceramic 20% on sides, back, and ultra view, 60% on front

tails are painted too. the clear coat finish is what makes it look flat.

I went with 20% tint too. Didn't need overpriced ceramic since 3M guaranteed no interference.
What kind of spoiler is that?

i believe that is was said that ceramic is what causes interference and i have none. the ceramic tint is one of the best available as it blocks 95% of the heat. i have a 30' wall of windows on the side of my house that faces the Cinci skyline (east) and i have them ceramic tinted as well as it reduced my overall temp inside without a/c by 10 degrees. it is amazing stuff. that's why i got it put on the front window as well as the ultra view to make it 100% blocked. a factory sunroof is only tinted glass and has no heat blocking capabilities...

sorry forgot your last question, spoiler is Specter Werkes

I like the UV untinted so if I'm rolling by cops all I got to do is open the shade and the 20% tint looks like 50%.

Thanks guys I really appreciate it... I love the look now. It was a show stopper before, but now it is literally pulling crowds like last night at a restaurant valet. These rims really made the car come to life as far as the look I was going for.

Now just a few more weeks till my heat extractor hood gets here!

Looks awesome man, the 21 rear is a cool idea (the coupe guys really need to look into it).

Glad you were able to work w/ Tony and Gio, they know their offsets!

What brake pads did you go with, I REALLY need to change to something that makes less dust, my wheels are black w/in days of cleaning......

ceramic is high because it also keeps heat out. I have both and I can for sure tell the difference in my V which has ceramic and my z which has a hybrid.

Cool thanks for the info, i have thought about doing that as well, but just have not decided yet.

you can just open it too. I guess in my ole age I just don't pay attention or worry about tint. But it is a fix it ticket here in tx, where I think you said in kali it's not. Cops here don't mess with front plates or tint, unless your doing something else stupid.

If you look at the last pic I have up, you can see how light the front 60% is and you can easily get that on the ultra view.

I'll get more pics up soon. Does this site let you write HTML code to post pics?

Also I can't say enough about the ride on these Michelin SS rears... for a 295/25/21 they ride incredible, are surprisingly quiet, and are really grippy. Plus the promise of 20% more life than pS2 is a bonus!

It is... I've been waitin fer' the hatin! Lol. It's just vinyl so when I tire of it, it'll come off but for now i get a kick out of it. I got the idea from the Z06X race car, which is appropriate with the build I have coming!

Wait till the license plate comes in ;)

Side note, please tell me if you know the weight difference of the heat extractor hood you have coming? Also, is it made by D3?

Thanks

The weight is unforeseen and it will be impossible to beat the stock AL hood weight but it's made by one of the best in the industry and hood weight is not rotational mass. The benefit of heat being pulled out and more clearance for a bigger blower is immeasurable with HP.

I'm not sure about a extractor hood on these cars....but if you're putting in a 2.3 and w/ the vinyl I think you're going all out, and it will definitely be tight butthole...(which will certainly sound odd to anyone not into workaholics).

Reading your first post, you went w/ 1/2 in wider rear, but the offset puts it out the same amount as mine (which I certainly think they nailed)? Sorry I didn't have a better pic, but sounds like talking w/ Nine Ball yourself worked out haha.

LOL Workaholics is hilar...

Ah thats right it was you I asked for side pics. I had such a tough time judging the flushness of yours and CORs judgement obviously showed me I underestimated it since they came out perfect. Gio told me any wider rears would be pushed inward, not outward. However, I believe they did push my lips out further and I'm still impressed they got that much. The front rim actually bows out on the chrome lip and tucks back in yet still is within the PS2 tire protector. I can't say enough about COR wheels honestly. The looks this car got became exponential once the wheels were fitted up.

I wasn't sure what to think at first but it grew on me quickly and it'll also tie into the dark side with the license plate. My V is more sport than luxury or sleeper as those have already been covered wholly straight from GM Performance, so I had to bring it!
