: "Service Suspension System" in DIC - No Symptoms

Not a huge deal, but during the last few weeks, the above notification would intermittently/randomly appear in the DIC. Hit the "i" button on the dash and it's gone. Called OnStar the 1st few times; they ran their diagnostics and reported back that nothing was showing up. The car never shows any sign that there's trouble, like a "speed limited" notification.
Now, over the last few days, the message shows up in the DIC as soon as I start the car - this is new, but still no symptoms and the car runs perfectly. I called OnStar again this morning while the message was still in the DIC - again, they report nothing after running the diagnostic scan.

I'm guessing a faulty sensor somewhere. I think I may have a vague memory of something similar being reported here by someone after some high speed cornering or a track day... and I think this started right after a similar experience.:D

Gonna take it in over the next week or two for an oil change and hopefully they can eradicate the reoccuring message. Anybody have experience with anything similar, or have suggestions on what it might be and if there are any TSBs for them to look up?

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,

Elie

odd mine did this twice today too out of the blue... first time ever and i just had it in last week for the recall on the rear. the first time it did it when i got on it slightly to speed up and granted my tune is still too rich but still that was odd. the second was under less acceleration/boost at all though..?

There is a wiring TSB that will be the first thing they do. If they are halfway competent.

my car did the same thing one of the Mad ride rods came loose up front(popped out of socket) so you might want to double check those first before taking it to the dealer.

i fixed mine in 5 minutes without even jacking the car up

Mine has stock suspension and I have gotten this message a few times recently. My brother hooked up his scanner to it and it gave a calibration code for the left rear sensor. If you look under the car from the rear they are easy to see and reach. Dealer will do the calibration check first and if that comes back bad they will just replace it. Just a sensor with a rod connected to do with the magnetic ride. No big deal...should not effect anything.

Elie thanks for passing info along! I adjusted the front ones since I had the hood up earlier today and got no codes when I hit the casino tonight. Hopefully that was the problem. If not, I appreciate the info on the rear. That would be next...

Exactly my scenario. The update is that the culprit was diagnosed as a bad left rear position sensor. Part ordered and was installed today. So far, so good.
Again, thank you for your assistance, Matthew!

Elie, that was me that had the same error during a track day. Bummer because with my son riding along I ended up running about 75-80% to err on the safe side. Haven't seen it since, but I am taking it to the dealer after I clean all the rubber off the wheels, wheel wells, undercarriage, etc... ;)

Thanks for this thread. I've had the "service suspension system" message come up three times since my front wheel bearings were replaced about a month ago. My guess is that a sensor was knocked out of place accidentally. Absolutely no symptoms, car runs and feels fine, and my suspension is completely stock. No codes stored when I've checked, which is odd. Oil change is coming up in the next two weeks so that will be one more thing to look into. 35.3k miles now.

Today when I started my 2012 V Coupe I had this message. I literally just got my V 3 days ago and I have only driven it 35 miles. As far as I can tell it drives great, so I can't believe that a problem is popping up this early. I will have OnStar run a diagnostic but I am hoping I don't need to take it to the dealer this soon in ownership.

Oh no! Have you re-started your vehicle since posting this, and if so was the message still displayed?

If you do decide on visiting a dealership, please keep us updated!

I have not started again yet. I will when I head to my next meeting in a few hours. I set up an appointment for tomorrow with the a dealership just in case.

So the service suspension warning reappeared after a few miles. I am definitely taking it in tomorrow to find out what's wrong.

An update on my situation. The dealer couldn't find any codes associated with the DIC message. I had an alignment done and during the procedure they found nothing untoward. The mystery continues! I haven't had the message return, either.

Brief trip to the dealership...message went away yesterday and did not return after 50 miles of driving. Service rep took the V for a ride (I tagged along). Didn't notice any issues with the ride and after multiple turn offs and start ups the message did not reappear. OnStar diagnostic did not indicate any issues. Due to the low miles the Service Rep adviced against doing any work on the car unless the message stayed on and always came on or a noticeable issue in the ride. So I will put some more mileage on it and see if the message keeps reappearing. [Roadtrip!!! I'm itching to get out of the breakin period anyway.]

Anyone else have any clues on this? The message keeps popping up randomly. Still no codes, though, and no symptoms. I've gotten to a point where when I see the message, I just automatically erase it. I've inspected the MRC shocks as far as I can and found no obvious leakage.

Can anyone with a service manual tell me where to look for the sensors on the suspension so I check on them? Also thinking about a second dealer opinion when I get the time--this is certainly not an urgent problem.

I don't have a service manual but I know there is an electrical connector under the two side engine covers that might be part of the system. Since they are easy to get to I would just check them for the usual (disconnected, melted, cracked, moisture) Im sure others will have more info. 92289

^^^ - There's probably equivalent sensors/connectors for the rears as well ... not sure how to access them though.

Thanks guys! I was all over the car again today. MRC shocks are totally dry outside--no leaks. I checked the connectors in the front, detached them, cleaned them, replugged in. Note: time to clean the engine compartment again, that sucker collects dust like nothing else!

I found the equivalents in the rear. If you remove or displace the trunk side covers , you can easily see them way at the front of the trunk. The rears are well-protected from the elements, but the fronts aren't. I didn't bother cleaning the rears.

Did that solve your issue? I also continue to get the same message randomly. I am ready to head back to the dealer.

Don't forget the sensors that are connected to the ride height rods either. They move with the suspension.

So my left rear connector was loose...hopefully that fixes the issue for good.

So far, yes. No more errors. I think part of my maintenance routine will be to check these monthly.

Update on this. Suspension is completely stock and has never been modified.

Flatrock gave me a TSB on this issue a few weeks ago dated in April, PIC5660. Wen I had my two-piece rotors installed about 2 weeks ago, I had the dealer to do the TSB on my car, and they obliged me. Unfortunately, within the last week, the random "service suspension" came back. I feel it is likely the sensors are just faulty.

Before anyone goes ballistic on Cadillac or my dealer, I think my servicing dealer is doing a good job addressing my concerns, of which I consider this minor as the car even at 40k miles drives like new and doesn't make much in the way of squeaks--better than I was expecting from Cadillac. I am still 100% geeked about this car after 3 1/4 years of ownership and I look forward to driving it lots more!

I will just ask for sensor replacement at the next oil change since that is the next step. I really want this cured so the car is perfect again.

Here is the TSB text:

#PIC5660: Service Suspension Message No DTCs - (Apr 18, 2012)
Subject:
Service Suspension Message No DTC's

Models: 2009 - 2012 Cadillac CTS-V
With Electronic Suspension

________________________________________
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

A customer may comment on a "SERVICE SUSPENSION" message on the DIC.

Recommendation/Instructions:

After further diagnostics it may be found that there are no DTCs in the Electronic Suspension Module, yet they still have a message on the DIC.
Reports from the field have indicated that there may be a connection issue at one of the shock connections causing the "SERVICE SUSPENSION" message to come on with no DTCs set.
Please make sure the connectors at the shock are seated properly.

Note: A diagnostic hint may be to use the Tech 2 and go into "Special Functions" to command the shock solenoids, if this test does not complete please make sure the connectors at the shocks are seated properly.

just to note. i have gotten the same message from the day after my eibachs were installed. i always cleared it as i didn't feel anything was out of sorts. i assumed i got a glitch from not disconnecting the neg battery terminal before i installed the springs. now i'm going to remove both front sensors and reattach to see if it clears said "message" in the dic. thanks for the info guys.

I have the same issue with an intermittent message appearing on the DIC with less than 300 miles on a 2013 V-wagon. The Dealer could not find anything until I left the dealership this morning and message reappeared within one mile. I returned and left vehicle running in the service reception bay and the shop foreman hooked up the diagnostic tool. It is an intermittent issue from right rear sensor. An appointment was made to return next week to have them check the connections.

I had that on my '13 wagon. They ended up changing one of the shocks. It took about 2 hours to complete the work.

Just got my 2014 CTS-V 650 miles
At some point while driving the "Service Suspension System" came up on the dash.. I Did the phone call to OnStar went trough the diagnostics nothing came up no codes were present.. was offered to set up an appointment with the dealer but declined at that point.Given the low mileage I decided to do a little research when i came upon this forum.. once i got home i noticed on start up the "Rainsense automatic windshield wipers activated" would appear on dash and shortly after the Service Suspension System would come up and stay on ..after reading the posts on the problem for the suspension warning i did a quick check pooped the hood and removed the plastic covers on the shock towers and YES indeed the driver side shock sensor plug was not clipped on from the factory. it was sitting on top were it belonged but not locked in ..30 seconds the problem was fixed the messages instantly went off.. including the 'Rainsense automatic windshield wipers" dont ask my why that came on too but that message went away also..probably it created and open circuit?? I took it out for a "test ride" last night "Perfect"!!! ....i found this info were to look on this Forum and decided to join and thank you for all the advice and i will pass on any thing i learn .. THANKS ROB

The Rainsense wipers message is normal is you have them activated.

Nice sleuthing in the shocks.

Welcome!

Thanks again;
