: Challenger Saga

So it's about time I made a trip/ownership thread for my newly purchased 2009 Dodge Challenger. I'll update it when things happen, change, or progress with the car, but first I'll post up my trip to Virginia and the drive home! Here we go, so grab a snack and get comfy! :snacks:

We left Otsego at 2am to get to the Detroit Metro Airport about 3 hours away. My awesome Mom went with me, just in case someone had to poke me if I fell asleep behind the wheel. We had like an hour and a half to kill once we got through check-in at the airport, so we stopped at the McDonalds and got breakfast.

Sausage McGriddle = WIN.
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip606.jpg

They had these cool hanging lights all over the airport. I liked them enough to take this picture of them.
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip608.jpg

On our way back to our terminal from breakfast, we ran across this vending maching FILLED with technology. Ipods, cameras, memory cards, speakers, headphones, etc. I'd never seen anything like that in my life. It was awesome.
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip609.jpg

We had a 45 min. layover in Philly, but we basically spent the whole time running from one end of the airport to the shuttle bus which took us to the other side of the building.
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip610.jpg

This isn't the exact plane we took on the second part of the journey, but it's close. Turbo-Prop somethingorother. My Mom was scared to fly in it, but it was actually smoother and roomier than the big jet we were on earlier.
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip611.jpg

Two excited travelers!
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip612.jpg

I should have gotten a picture of it, since there was a guy at the airport for us with a sign with my name on it, but instead here is a scenic shot from the drive to the dealership.
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip613.jpg

The sight of this magnificent vehicle greated me as we pulled into New River Nissan. (I know, who buys a Dodge from a Nissan dealership, right? :shhh: )
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip615.jpg

My Dad would have FLIPPED if he had seen this Trans Am. He loves them, and they had this one for sale. 80,000 miles and it was spotless.

New River Nissan was a very clean and modern dealership, and had the most friendly staff I think I've ever met.

We stopped at this gas station for some fuel, and then the sky opened up and just about drowned us. We were tired anyways, so we slept for 45 minutes in the parking lot.

I will never tire of that gas-cap.

http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip661.jpg

Around 10:30 that night, it started storming again, full-tilt. We were just about dead to the world anyways, so we hung it up and got a motel for the night. I love Super 8s.

Rest-stop in the middle of the windmills. The Challenger is looking good.
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip671.jpg

Windmills everywhere!
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip672.jpg

And finally, chocolate milk and Subway before we hit the Michigan border.
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ChallengerTrip675.jpg

Long story short, the Challenger is an AMAZING road-tripper. It just eats up the miles. The seats are very comfortable and supportive, and the engine is just great. Power everywhere, and always there when you need it. Things get even better when you turn off the traction-control. :lildevil:

About time we heard from you, Matt!

Virginia is a lovely place and I miss frequently passing through there, though I miss the entire Northeast, really.

As for the weird vending machine, I saw one in Denver (Because I actually had to fly somewhere?)...Yeah, weird-ass machine, I took a photo of it too and after F**king around for it for a minute, I'm convinced, it's a witch.

Nice score on the car though, definitely worth the wait.

I Googled Christianburg, VA and found it was down in the toolies of southwestern Virginia. Hard to get to, especially from the toolies of Michigan, but it looks the trip was well worth the bother! Great looking new car, Matt! Glad you were able to find the one you really wanted and you got to see some lovely Blue Ridge and Appalachian scenery too! Best of luck with your new pride and joy!

Excellent choice, Matt, and a fine trip into the bargain! I saw one of those technogoodies vending machines recently in Las Vegas, in one of the hotels. And as far as the wind turbines, if you like those, you'd love driving the I-10 into Palm Springs.

^The fact that the 'mills are so huge and moving is amazing to me. They have one at the college I went to, but it never worked right. My cousin is in the Air Force and currently stationed in England. She says there are just miles and miles of those things over there.

Also, thanks. It was a blast-and-a-half of a trip.

Beautiful Challenger. I love those things. Those techy vending machines are ALL OVER Washington... and the thing about the wind turbines, 10 through Morongo Valley (same place ^) is amazing. We have a TON of wind turbines here in Kittitas county, too.

In rural farmland, in far south Minnesota, a local energy company built a slew of wind turbines last fall that all stand 397 feet tall. Now, THOSE are something to watch as you drive by them. The blades are all 135 feet long!

IT'S BAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!

I got the Challenger outta storage today! It was a bit of a ruse getting the battery back into it though. Since the storage unit doesn't allow batteries to remain in the vehicle in storage, I had to remove it. No problem, until you need to put it back in and realize there is no key hole on the trunk to manually open it. So we popped the hood and hooked my brother's car to it at the under-hood jump points. That supplied enough juice to pop the trunk with the key fob. Then I was able to put the battery in, secure the rachet-strap that goes around the battery, install the metal battery hold down, and plug the vent tube into the side of it. And THEN tighten up the battery terminals.

http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp126/greencadillacmatt/ItsBAAAAACK.jpg
Here she is, fresh out of the brushless car wash, about 20 minutes outta storage.

Also, I took it up to the local car (read RICER) meet/cruise with my little brother last night. There was a very nicely done LT1 Trans Am up there too, but we were the only muscle cars there. Still, very fun to have it out and to go cruising with it and some car people. Here it is with my little brother's Neon.

If they facelift it, GM has to counteract with a Trans Am facelift for the Camaro, since the Trans Am was always superior, even though both Trans Ams and Camaros are just the lady-variants of the Chevelle and GTO, so I can't really drive one anyhow. It would be fun to look at though.

I always figured if I owned a Dodge, I would add one of my bigger Ram skulls off the wall as it's hood ornament. Really, I could do this with anything, but it would look off, because Dodge already uses said logo as a hood ornament.

The modern Challengers do look a bit funny with that hood ornament on them though, even if they did try to keep it subtle.

NICE!

Matt, I didn't know you lived in Otsego. I took the Trans Am to the Otsego Fall car show 2 years ago. My wife's family lives in Kalamazoo, so we head out there 2-3 times/year.

^Awesome man! The car show got rained out this year, as we had a big storm roll through that morning. Let me know when you cruise up this way, I think it'd be pretty cool to meet another forum member. :D
