'72 Continental.

Had to drive it from Tampa to Clermont with no tag whatsoever without getting pulled over!

$4,000 well spent. Epic negotiating skills. He wanted $5,500, so I climbed in the car and drove away, waiting for him to call me back.

NICE car.

It needs a few simple things. I need to fiddle with the switches for the seats a bit as they seem a bit loose and the interior is great, save a touch of damage on the passanger door. It also does not come with an overfil reservior, so may haps I can jerry-rig one.

Wheel Wrap.

Kill it with fire.

Funny you mention it. I already took care of that. The horn on these cars is activated by squeezing the wheel and that wrap not only looks awful, it completely disables the horn.

My own or my truck rather. Yeah that sounds suspicious. Funny though because the entire operation was suspicious, but that's how we roll in Organized Irish Shenanigans. My Girlfriend's father, a judge from Las Vegas, was quick to mention that he knows from experience the trunk is adequate for four bodies or 132 ducks.

I dunno, I guess I can only dream about owning a car for so long before I get bored of it and move on to something else. Don't get me wrong, I think the Mark IV is an amazing machine, and I definitely want one (just like Dullahan's, a navy/white '72) at some point in the future, but lately I've been getting more interested in the late '50s-mid '60s Lincolns.

I just think these are beautiful beyond reason.
http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/lincoln/63lc/bilder/5.jpg

These really get me excited as well.
http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/lincoln/59linc/bilder/13.jpg

So again, totally LOVE Dullahan's car (I'm stricken with jealousy), but overall I'm getting more interested in the Kennedy era stuff. If push comes to shove, I'd buy the 72-76 Mark IV/ 77-79 Mark V first because I've wanted them for so long (and they're a LOT cheaper)...

Dullahan, have you been wanting a Mark IV for a while? Did you look at a lot of stuff before buying this one? I'm curious how it drives compared to a '77 Town Car or a '79 Mark V. Those are the only '70s era Lincolns I've ever driven and are my only point of reference. How's it stack up to that '87 hearse?

The-Dullahan
07-07-11, 06:35 PM
Aww, thanks. Praise from Caesar.

I am honoured that as many of you like this car as it seems.

I actually like the sixties ones and for a long time have been contemplating buying one (Which is how I heard about this one)

While I have other aspirations prior to such a car, if such a Lincoln comes up, I will make haste to grab it before it is gone.

whats not to like?

its elegant and at the same time, masculine. in other words, it simultaneously exudes charm AND power. those notched rear quarters remind me of a beast building up its hind legs getting ready to pounce

On top of that, the car looks to be in very good shape. The chrome still gleams and with a good coat of wax, that paint will look deep enough to swim in. the white leather looks well taken care of, soft and clean

again, whats not to like?

Or kinda like comparing Liberace to Frank Sinatra. It really is funny to look at the different flavors Lincoln was throwing out from the gargantuan, over the top late '50s models to the sleek, sexy, clean and extremely elegant '60s models back to the gargantuan, over the top, baroque models of the '70s and early '80s. I love them all.

Go check out the TV show Cannon. It's a '70s era crime show about a detective Frank Cannon. Kind of like Magnum PI or Rockford Files, but Cannon's car of choice is a Mark IV. I've never seen it, but everyone in the know tells me there's a lot of great car chase scenes in it.

Yeah, the TV show "Cannon" had a lot of car chases involving the "Fat Man" (Cannon played by William Conrad). These chases showed the Continental's ability to slide all over the road exhibiting "jello like" body roll, shimmy and shake that had nothing to do with the rotund guy driving it! These cars were meant for serene drives on well paved boulevards where no cross traffic was anticipated (the nose dip upon braking was truly in a league by itself!).

Here's one of the nicest Mark IV's I've ever seen. This was probably late '09, at a small weekly car show near my house. It's a '73 (bigger front bumper, but small rear bumper), but I LOVED the medium metallic blue with the white top and interior.

I remember that Mark IV wallowing through car chases on Cannon (they must have had one hell of a stunt driver). No luck searching on YouTube for a car chase scene . The 1975 Disney movie Escape to Witch Mountain also had a black '74 Mark IV in a car chase. Haven't found a clip of that, either.

Some Honda Kid.

Lincoln acquired, I believe the next project shall be more down home for the Cadillac Owner's group, as seeing as the '87 has some substance to it's electronics again, it is time for another project to start on it. 8.2 litres of project at that...

Also, I have apparently been breaking this law with a slew of vehicles for the last three years.

Of course, I could always get a standard license plate...But that's just so wrong...
