Thought I'd make a thread where we can post pics from all the smaller car shows we all go to.

Here's a few from the most recent weekly Friday night show that takes place 10 minutes from me.

The '58 Plymouth Belvedere/Fury hardtop sport coupe is one of my favorite '50s cars of all time. The lines are so beautiful, clean and crisp. Not many other cars in '58 were this good looking.

For shear Buick mid-fifties bravado you you really need to see a '58 Buick "Limited" it was built on the Cadillac chassis and was much bigger than the "Super" or "Roadmaster." they were never too many of them about, and I believe '58 was the only year for the model.

I, too, am fond of the '64-'66 Thunderbirds, especially the convertibles. This series was my favorite of the four seat Thunderbirds. It is ashame they were such lousy drivers!

I've got the '58 Buick deluxe catalog, and the Limited is the first one pictured. It's extremely ornate, and I don't think I've ever seen a car with more chrome on it. The Limited was to Buick what the Eldorado Brougham was to Cadillac at the same time. Very expensive & over the top.

Despite all their problems and their shear size, I have to admit my admiration for the '58 thru '60 Continentals. The 1958 sedan being my favorite of the series.

I have told stories before about my good friend whose dad bought one of the first 1958 Continental Mark IV as soon as they came out. The car was so large that you couldn't pass an oncoming car on a N.J. country two lane without pulling on the shoulder. It would easily seat four abreast in the back seat. My friends dad's car was black with a black leather interior ... to this day one of the most magnificent looking cars I have ever seen. unfortunately the car suffered from a myriad of problems and my friend's dad sold it within the year he bought it.

I would much rather have a 1959 Continental Mark IV convertible than a 1959 Cadillac convertible. I never much cared for the rear end of these cars, but the rest of them were magnificent!

If I'm not mistaken, the 1958-60 Lincolns were the longest (if not the widest and heaviest...) postwar cars until the leviathans of the mid '70s hit the showrooms. Their 430 cid V8 was also the biggest out there until the mid '60s. In 1958's most pure form, it's 375hp & 480 lb/ft was the most powerful engine on the market. I remember reading somewhere that they actually drove pretty well considering their sheer size and were quite quick, atleast in '58 before the engine's power was knocked down to a low of 315 in 1960.

I don't think that the 58-60 Lincolns are as good looking overall as a comparable Imperial or Cadillac. Their design isn't as linear and doesn't flow as well as it's competition, but oh my god for road presence! Much like the Lincolns of the '70s, their designs looked much BIGGER than anything else on the market.

Chad, I agree with you on the 1965 Chev being a favorite. A '65 Impale convertible would be the only '60's Chevy I'd want to own!

Love the bubbletop. Great color, too. That '65 Impala SS is pretty sweet, too. 4-speed, power windows, factory air, and I'm thinking a 327.

The rear deck on that Impala reminds me of the back of a boat... Lol. That, to me, is the quintessential Caddy.

The 1955 and 1956 Chrysler Imperials are two of my favorite 1950's designs. Of course they are a body type that ended in 1957 with the across the industry styling change that took place that year. The '55 and '56 Imperials were the models that most closely resembled the show cars done for Chrysler in Italian a couple of years earlier.

To me the 1956 model year Cadillacs and Imperials best stated the power and economic strength that the United States had at that time. The 1954 Imperial show phaetons parade cars, which several American cities still maintain and occasionally use are unique examples of the blending of the feel and style of the classics of the thirties with the envelope bodies that came after W.W. II. All models of these Imperials looked especially good with the OEM wire wheels that were an option.

As an interesting side note, President Eisenhower had a 1956 Imperial Crown limousine that was given to him by his wife for his 70th (?) birthday. He kept that car at his Gettysburg farm and used it (drove it himself) when he was at the farm.

Our family doctor, who was also a family friend, had a beautiful ivory colored 1955 Imperial Newport (2 door hardtop) and I was always glad when he and his wife came to dinner so I could get an "up close and personal" look at his magnificent car! Only my aunt's 1956 Continental Mark II could beat the good doctor's Imperial as a statement of having arrived.

These Imperials never really sold that well, and certainly never approached Cadillacs sales figures or presence in the tonier neighborhoods of America. But when one went by the power and dignity of this car left an an impression!
