Has anyone had a problem with the factory door handles coming off? Two of my handles are currently coming off my truck. Are there any solutions or quick fixes? thanks.

It's a common problem, I have had a couple of mine replaced. It's due to the cheap plastic clip that's used to hold them in place. Hopefully you are still under the factory warranty. Just take it in to the service department, they will have it fixed for you. That is one of the easy fixes that the service department did not give me a hard time on. Good luck.

I had 3 of them broken at different times. Buy them at the Chevy dealers. Bring it to any window tint shop, and they will replace it for about $50 labor. Sometimes they will replace it under extended warranty, but sometimes they don't. Don't know why though. I guess it really depends on the mood of the service technician.

escaladeext1010,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue. Have you spoken with your local dealership to confirm if this would be covered under any type of warranty you may have?

Thank you

I bought one for about $30 from partstrain.com and replaced it myself in about half an hour. Really easy to fix.

Is it as simple as removing the inner door panel or are there special tools required?

How about a $100,000+ BMW M5..used to break as well as my 540i BMW..chrome plastic (interior latch handles)..

There is a simple fix for this issue. Partstrain.com offers an aluminum replacement that will remedy these issues. Of course they cost quite a bit more than the plastic handles, but if you replace a broken plastic handle with another plastic handle what do you think will happen??

Why doesn't gm do this?

I imagine its cheaper and faster to mass produce plastic handles and in the end saves GM money and gives them the opportunity to sell replacement handles back to the consumer at an outrageous mark up....

Have not broken one on any of my Escalade's so far, but my neighbor has been thru 3 of them on one truck, but watching him open the door it's easy to see why he has been thru so many, he opens the door like it's a 100 lb metal door and rips it open.

Big Windy Ext,
How did it go at the dealership this morning? Did they fix the handles for you? How many times has this happened?

It went well.I think four handles on the outside, three on the inside.I was shocked when they told me that it isn't covered by my GMPP and that it was over a year,14,000 miles since that particular handle had been replaced.I'm guessing that GM is doing customer satisfaction on it because they took care of it without me having to squawk. Now we have to work on the clunk I get in reverse ,the engineers put out a TSB saying its normal. Thanks for asking and keeping the dealers honest although my dealership seems to be a good one.Heritage Cadillac in Lombard by the way if you want to give them an atta boy or gold star, they have kept me quite happy regardless of the unusual amount of repair this vehicle has had.
