: The car is only 5 days old and the motor is falling apart!

I just picked up my new Coupe last weekend and look what happened to it already.
The heads fell off, the supercharger disappeared. No telling what is going to fall out next!:)
It's a good thing I have replacement parts handy.
I thought I could wait more than a week but it just didn't happen.
I have a set of CNC ported heads, a 9.1 lower and a 2.55 upper, a couple of cams to choose from, a bunch of intercooler cores I can fab a big heat exchanger from and some 4"aluminum mandrel bends to make a nice CAI from.
I'm curious to dyno it without headers first and then add a set of American Racing Headers for comparison.
We started this morning with the intention of sticking in an LS7 cam and the pulleys and driving it this weekend.
Once we got the front off, it seemed silly to leave the heads alone. Once the heads were off, then it seemed silly to go with the LS7 cam just because I had some laying around the shop.
One thing leads to another.

I'm guessing it should go pretty good when it's done. The plan is to have it running by next weekend, but we'll see.
I still have the motor out of my Z06 and need to get that going too.

Andy,

A GHL cat back would go great with those mods. Hopefully you can get one developed.

Lol, this is exactly why I bought a V. No way in hell would anyone be doing head and camwork with a week old E90 or E60. Aside from it being 1000% easier with an OHV engine as common as the SBC..

Mine last less then 2 months before it was ported snout, heads, blower cam, injectors, pullies, etc.... its just to easy to make power with these cars

You can wait for the Stainless Works stuff to come out... large ID headers, high flow cats, and exhaust. This would make a huge difference on your engine combination. Mine will be done in another week or two.

There is no way you don't yank the motor out and do the bottom end as well, for I know you and you'll certainly exceed the power the bottom end can reliably handle... :)

I've been friends with Nick at American Racing Headers since before there even was an American Racing Headers. He's hooking me up with a set of ARH 1 7/8" with X Pipe and cats.

Ah. You know me too well.
I bought the car on the spur of the moment and it's less than a week old. I haven't had time to build a complete engine for it yet, or even come up with a game plan.
Even this is sort of pushing it. I have 3 complete engine jobs and 2 supercharger installs in the shop that really can't be put off.
I did just get three LS7 blocks back from Steve at Race Engine Development with new sleeves in them. I'm sure one of them will end up in the car, at some point.
My car dynoed 468 with just some tuning, Corsa mufflers and some minor exhaust work. I'm just looking to get somewhere between 650 and 700. I don't think I'll kill the short block at that level, at least not right away.
Call me when you get a chance. I'd like to hear the latest on yours.

It's going back together nicely. I think we'll have it wrapped up so I can drive it for the weekend.

The cam, lower pulley and heads are on.

The snout is ported and ready to go back on the blower.

We're also working on a different idea for the heat exchanger. It will be a dual pass vertical flow cooler with reservoirs on each end. I've had a lot of success with my Ram Air Corvette intercoolers and am going to apply the same theory to my heat exchanger. I am going to weld small "dams" around the cooler core to capture the air and stop it from pouring over the edges. If you make a small enclosure around the core, it will force more air through the cooler. Believe me it works.
