The keen-eyed crew over at GMInsideNews (http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f70/cadillac-ats-gms-website-103900/) may have snagged the best view yet of the upcoming Cadillac ATS (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/cadillac ats) chassis. Board member Elvisuperman snapped a screen capture of the introduction video at GM.com, which seems to show an engineer hard at work on what might be the Alpha platform. The bare shell is a four-door sedan with short overhangs, what looks to have a rear-wheel drive configuration and rear flanks that don't match anything else in the General Motors (http://www.autoblog.com/make/gm) stable at the moment. So, could this be the bones of the company's 3 Series (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/3 series) fighter?

It's hard telling. We wouldn't think that the people at GM would be so absent-minded as to slather the chassis of one of the most anticipated vehicles from Cadillac all over the main page, but stranger things have happened.

Word on the web is that the ATS (real name to come) will pack a turbocharged V6 engine when it lands on dealer lots, though GM has yet to announce any powertrain options. Stay tuned, and head over to GM.com (http://www.gm.com) to see the video for yourself. Is this the 2013 Cadillac ATS? It pretty much has to be the ATS. It's too small to be a VF Commodore or 3G CTS, and it appears to have RWD proportions. It's pretty clearly a compact RWD platformed car, so I main that's what it looks like.

Hope they launch with a RWD version of the LNF, either the 250 or 270 horsepower versions to compete with the A4 2.0T, 328i, and C300 of the world. The upgrade could probably be the LFX, both backed by a choice of automatic or manual six speeds (and get an 8-speed out in due time); AWD should also be an across-the-board option outside of the V-Series. The ATS-V should pack a "volume" version of the C7 Z06's engine, so probably not far shy of ~500 horsepower. Europe NEEDS diesels. AT LEAST TWO, a 4-cylinder and a 6-cylinder diesel would be required to pierce the European market at all, if they're even interested in Cadillac Europe anymore.

This car has to be a knockout.
