The other day, I went to pass a late 90's Cummins twin turbo diesel with a cut exhaust system and stacks, lifted to the ceiling [looked like a true moron] on a 50mph road. He was going like 40mph. When I went to pass, he thought he would be a bad ass and try to speed up and prevent me from passing. He floored it and that obnoxious exhaust spurted smoke. I showed him what a Northstar could do, and waved as he disappeared in the rear-view mirror. I'm sure his girlfriend that he was trying to impress was very proud. Just thought you would all like to hear about a funny Cadillac win. :want: FYI it was a long straight country road with nobody around. Do not try this at home. Lol

Cummins are single turbo inline sixes BTW. Always cracks me up when people put dual exhaust tips or dual stacks on their Cummins rigs.

Also, you just as easily could've got stomped if the moron had his truck set up right. With just a programmer and a few exhaust mods(literally about $1000 in mods), you can almost double the power output on any late model diesel truck. Changing the turbo and running 50+psi of boost, things get real interesting

Exactly. The only thing I ever really tried to race in my ETC and lost to was a '03-'06 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Crew cab and 4x4. I don't know what he'd done to that truck, but he literally left me in a cloud of smoke getting onto the interstate. From ~30-100 he pulled 10-12 car lengths on me and was still going when I let out of it. They're BAD when set up right.

06-22-11, 07:57 PM
I didn't mean to type twin... lol habit. He could have beaten me if he knew how to drive and didn't butcher his truck. I have never understood dual stacks... They look totally ridiculous.

diesels are badass. my dad raced some stupid civic ricer in his E350 SD w/ a 7.3 turbo diesel- and it was on a curvy road. my dad left the guy at the light, then the guy spent the rest of the time trying to play catchup with a heavy ass van. whatever the honda would make on the van in the turns would be made up + a couple lengths by the next turn. it was funny as shit. little lightweight honda cant beat a loaded down work van.

...and this is why civics suck.

Only, with this being the glorious internet, you can walk into a conversation, realize that you don't care for it, and leave just as quickly without having to say a word and no one knows you were even here. As far as I can tell the only thing that makes this thread like high school is people like you who think they have to involve themselves when they have nothing to contribute other than snide comments.

I don't think Brandon ever said that Northstars just plain beat Diesels, just that once in a while it's nice to take an idiot who *thinks* his Diesel's shit smells like roses and make him realize his setup is weak.

Otherwise yes, a properly calibrated and tuned Diesel pickup will WALK on most anything out there. That monstrous torque just keeps giving and giving in those things. This is why I like that cheap Ram Express so much. In these daily situations where you just want to point the thing and mash on the throttle, there's still plenty of smiles to be had, even without massive (or any) cornering abilities and gigantic brakes. It's just fun.

Good story Brandon. Always fun to hear stories of cocky braggarts getting owned by guys in sleeper cars.

brandondeleo
06-23-11, 01:17 AM
Yeah, I define a Northstar as a sleeper. It delights me to see people's faces when my grandpa car wipes them out. Especially the cocky ones in Civics, BMW 318s, Acuras, etc. I~LUV~Caddys guy, you hit it right on the nose. Lol. Thanks. :D

Only one small problem with that accusation there chief. If you take the time to go back and look, and actually read this time, I commented and made a contribution to the thread before making my snide comment to you. Looks like you're left being a pot all alone.
