BTTF is an annual car show up in St. Paul. It's taken place over the Fathers day weekend every year since 1973, over 12,000 cars congregate from all across the country for a mecca for classic car enthusiasts. I've been going every year since I was about 13 and off and on before that when my dad had that '57 Chrysler.

Most of the stuff here is old hot rods or rat rods, and a TON of 55-57 Chevys, but there's still a lot of stuff that interests me.

I always go see the MECUM auction first before I go to the rest of the show.

I sat in it and I've never felt leather softer....not even in a new Benz, Lexus or Cadillac...this stuff was like glove leather if you treated it with butter and rubbed it hours on end every day for the last 34 years. This is as close to a brand new Mark V as I'll probably ever see..

'69 Mustang Mach 1 Sportsroof. My favorite year of Mustang, ever.

OK, so considering the color and year of this one, this might have eeked out the '57 Coupe deVille for "best in show".

Agreed, 100%. The '69 fastback cars are the best of them all.

EDIT: I just noticed I called it a fastback while you called it a sportsroof. Does sportsroof = fastback?

Thanks again, Chad, for your photos of this great show!

The red Eldorado you have pictured is a 1954, the 1955 was the first year for the more exaggerated tail fins (differed than the standard models) that were used on the Eldorados in '55 and '56.

The Olds (blue and white) Super 88 convertible is a 1957.

I am not a fan of '70s Continentals but the low mileage one you have pictured is very special.

The light green metallic Pontiac Bonneville is actually a 1959 not a 1961. Those '59 "Wide Track" Pontiacs were really beasts. The Bonnies could be had with some humongous engines, and like many 50's era cars would go like a son of gun, and stop like a drunk cat on a greased baking sheet!

I was disappointed that I didn't see any nice '58 Buicks. They're one of my favorite '50s cars.

5 Favorite '50s cars

1956 Cadillac
1957 Cadillac
1958 Plymouth
1957 Chrysler
1958 Buick

And the 58-59 Cadillacs, 57-59 Imperials, 57-59 Desotos and Dodges, 59 Oldsmobiles & Buicks round up the list. The cool thing about the '50s era stuff is although it changed pretty dramatically every year, most models within that year all look alike, aside from minor trim differences, options and whatnot.

I really like what Chrysler did in '57, made everything look longer, lower and smoother and it inspired GM and Ford to get their ass into gear and follow suit. GM's designs in '59 were awesome as well...everything was lower and longer than the '58 offerings, but their fins were lower and not as beautiful as Chrysler's offerings IMO. Still though, a '59 Oldsmobile or '59 Buick will grab my eye at any car show.

You can thank Virgil Exner for Chrysler's design at the time. If you get the chance to looks at a '57 and '59 Cadillac side-by-side, notice how much shorter the '59 sits. Both are great designs, but it really was Chrysler that started getting American cars lower to the ground.

Late 50s cars always overshadow the early-50s cars, IMO. Which is sad, because there are some killer early 50s designs out there.

Nice photos, Mr. Chad!

It's possible if you only drive it between June and September. It's when you start braving those hellish northern winters that rot sets in.

I lived most of my life in MN, it's amazing how many folks tuck their beloved cars away each winter and drive the classic "winter beater." After living in Florida I'd say it's as likely to see a nice old car in either state.

The Royal Lancer is quite a car - I've never heard of it or even seen one before, very unique and very nice! :)

saw a fab shop demo car for sale. think it was a pickup with no roof. had a full slammed suspension, simple interior with molded dash, console, bunch of subs in back of cab. nothing really caught by eye but they were asking 150k. was going to ask booth guys what they had $$$ in it. but they were busy talking to folks. was laying frame and 1 of the front tires was touching inner fender and guy next to me said that might rub. haha. no one drives it laying on the ground.
