If you're experiencing issues with the new text editor, please clear all your cadillacforums.com cache and cookies, then restart your web browser before viewing the site. That should fix any issues you may have.

Otherwise, there's now an automatic "save" feature that'll save what you're posting as you're typing it. If for any reason you lose your post, you can always start a new post and look for "Restore Auto-Saved Content" at the bottom left of the text editor.

There are a few other new features in regards to posting messages. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you...

That is VERY VERY cool Sal. It's happened to me several times where I went to post something, got an error, and lost what I typed.

Not that it matters much in my case, I rarely post anything worthwhile anyway :D

Thanks, guys! And you're right, Jimmy. You rarely post anything worth while anyway. Of course, kidding, I am...

oops.

Hey, as long as you are changing stuff, can we get our old smilies back?

btw, the image insert is weird now. what does "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" mean?

JimmyH
06-10-11, 04:33 PM
ok I see now, it takes the image from a URL, and stores it as an attachment. I would disable that if I were you. the last thing we need is more bandwidth getting eaten up by attachments instead of hotlinks.

JimmyH

On the left is the default, is there a way to change it so the default is like on the right?

JimmyH
06-10-11, 04:38 PM
Or maybe you want folks to attach the images so they are hosted here instead of hotlinking? I am not sure what your preference is.

just one nit-pick

before i used to be able to hit TAB and then ENTER to post... but now the TAB apparently does not jump me out of the text field and into the next item on the page and when I hit ENTER it just bumps another line on my post ...

so now i've got to move my mouse around to hit the post button...

if it's possible to get that TAB action back that would be nice ...
but other than that this is great

Would you mind sending me an email with all the smileys you want back and I'll put this in my queue? I hate the new smileys as well..

I don't really have a preference.. I think we can just leave that up to the poster him/herself.. No?

Maybe it's a caching issue because in this post:
http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/site-news-feedback-questions-suggestions/232410-new-text-editor.html#post2621218

All the smileys are working properly for me.. Do you still see one of the old ones there?

RippyPartsDept

yeah, the smilies look the same to me as they did last week

Lord Cadillac

Just visit the actual URL of the image and do a hard refresh. That'll fix the problem. The images on the server are the larger, more colorful ones.

Sometimes when I use the quick reply and then post, I get a warning popup that I may lose changes made on this page with the buttons "leave page" and "stay on page." It could be because I am using multiple tabs. Could that be causing a problem Sal?

RippyPartsDept
06-15-11, 05:50 PM
got that for the first time today... it's only happened once... after getting a bit frustrated i just clicked leave page... and it posted my 'quick reply'

i almost always have a bunch of tabs open... the site has frozen up my firefox a couple of times today also... if i leave it alone it comes back... i think it may have to do with the content in the threads and how the new software deals with certain photos or links etc

JimmyH
06-15-11, 05:51 PM
After making that post, I got that message again, this time when closing a tab where I did not even make a post. Maybe it's a bug specific to Chrome.

I am really disliking Chrome lately.

Ranger

I have gotten that once or twice, but it was only when I attempted to close the close one of multiple tabs.

Can anyone explain how the "Auto-Saved" thing works. :hmm: I keep seeing it pop up when I am replying, but have no idea what it's doing, how it does it or how it helps me.

JimmyH
06-15-11, 10:41 PM
Type in a bunch of characters into the quick reply box and wait for the auto save. Then go to a different page and come back. You will see "restore auto saved content" in the lower left corner. If you click on it, the text you entered will come back.

It's probably Chrome but not really Chrome's fault.. I'm guessing it's something to due with the new editor and not enough people using Chrome to have reported it. My guess is that with the next forum software upgrade - which will be soon - this will go away. If it keeps happening, please let me know..

yeah, the new editor sometimes takes a long time to load... sometimes it will be a blank white box while the rest of the page is already loaded and the tab just freezes up until the editor loads

i switched in my profile back to the other 'standard' editor with 'some formatting controls' ... but it didn't seem to take... i'm still getting the new editor

also ... i've had the TAB problem a couple times lately ... seems to be intermittent

i use both chrome and ffx so it's a bit tough sometimes to remember what happened in what browser

JimmyH
06-16-11, 02:25 PM
been okay today. I don't think Chrome is all it is cracked up to be. I only use it because I have separate book mark bars for here and general surfing. I wish firefox would give you a way to quickly switch between bookmark toolbars. I wonder if there is an addon for that.

one of my favorite things about chrome is that it's constantly upgraded without any user interaction ... which is tied into the security factor

New editor + Mac 10.6 + Safari (current) = complete fail.

Once it let me post, but since then I get 'not enough characters' all day long. Doesn't matter what I try. No quick reply, reply to thread, reply, reply with quote, go advanced, post quick reply -- nothing works.

cleared cookies, dumped cache, even 'reset safari'. Can't post from Safari.

Using firefox today for this site only. not happy about it.

Simple fix. Two letters.
