: CTS Model Year Feature Changes - Comprehensive List

I'm new here and I just bought a used 2009 CTS DI PDQ (Premium) FE2 RWD. The build date was August '08. I have every available option except Block Heater, AWD and/or FE3. When I was looking for it, I had to do a lot of research to figure out which model years had the options that I wanted. I think it would be helpful to those in the market for a used CTS to have a comprehensive list of which features have been added or de-contented based on the model year and build date.

For example, I wanted Bluetooth so I ruled out 2008 models, but now I understand that some late-build 2008's have it. I also understand that maybe some 2009 models built after mine don't have options that I have.

I have lighted front footwells but not in the rear. Did the 2008 models have rear footwell lighting as well?

What is the 2009 model missing that 2008's have?

Same goes for 2009 to 2010, etc.

Please list build dates if you have them. Thanks!

Yes 2008 has rear lighted footwells, along with front footwells, gear shift, doors(4) and around wood trim. Not sure about rainsense wipers which 08s have and of course the heated washer which went away in 09 I think but can easily be replaced.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like we can add rear footwells to the list of de-contented items on 2008 to 2009. My early-build 2009 does have all of the other lighting mentioned as well as rain sense wipers. It even has the lighting on the rear door handles. Strange that they left that and took away rear footwell lighting.

what you are asking for should be easily found by using the search function. Each model year there has been a discussion on what's new and what's been deleted. To list all of that information in one spot given the model year breaks and changes along the way would probably be a herculean task. enjoy your car.

C "T" ess,
I have read many of your posts. I enjoy them, and am thankful that you are such an active member. That being said, I have diligently searched this forum and others and strongly dispute how "easy" it is to get this info. For one, the search functions are not easily refined on this forum. I get scores of almost completely irrelevant posts including more posts on models other than the CTS. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but is there a way to refine the search results just to the CTS model? Secondly, I wish the members did a better job of using more descriptive titles. Take mine for example. Type in "CTS model year changes" or "CTS Features" and you will get it. Too many posts use ambiguous titles. I wish people kept this in mind when posting.

A herculean task it may be, but we have a lot of members here. With helpful contributions from just a fraction of them, it can "easily" be accomplished. If the topic interests you, please post. If not, please refrain from dampening the enthusiasm of those that do.

I think this will help those in the market for a used CTS. I wish a unified list was available when I was doing my due diligence. I just want to help and contribute.

Misc. Info:
1. Bluetooth integration was not available/not included on early to mid-year build 2008 CTS's. Bluetooth was finally introduced on the vehicle beginning with mid-April 2008 CTS production.
2. The 2008 CTS did not get 'active head restraints' (front seats) until late-December 2007 vehicle production. 2008 m-y CTS's built prior to late December 2007 were equipped with non-active head restraints.
3. GM had quality/supply issues with the B20 Wood Trim Package from start of 2008 production (June/July 2007) until approx. October 2007. As a result many early build 2008 CTS's are equipped with the B19 Wood Trim Package but not the B20 Wood Trim Package.

Great post RAB, though I think it is important to comment on one thing that is asked frequently on this forum:

Bluetooth is not standard on all iterations until 2012 M.Y. Previous to 2012 M.Y. it was packaged with the Y44 seating package (leather seats with power passenger and driver memory). If the car does not have Y44, it does not have Bluetooth.

somedaycts, thanks. Apologies for the error re Bluetooth application/availability (i.e. on vehicles built for the US).
Your info is helpful in a couple of ways, as I've realized now that I left out Y44 Seating Package info entirely in my original listings in post #6 of this thread. Actually I gave zero thought to the Y44 Package because of where I live! Every 2008+ CTS (every iteration) built for Canada comes standard with the Y44 Seating Package (and therefore Bluetooth since late m-y 2008).
As info.. all 2008+ CTS's built for Canada also get the (ZAA) Compact Spare Tire as standard equipment, as opposed to it being an option in the US.

I'm unable at this point to edit my post #6 (more than 24 hours have passed), therefore will provide info here about Y44:

Y44 (m-y '08) - Seating Package - Includes leather seating surfaces, 8-way power passenger seat, 2-way power driver and front passenger lumbar control, Memory Package, heated front seats, and heated washer fluid system. [Info taken from '08 CTS sales brochure/USA]

Y44 (m-y's '09 & '10) - Seating Package - Includes leather seating surfaces, 8-way power passenger seat, 2-way power driver and front passenger lumbar control, Memory Package, heated front seats, Universal Home Remote, and (UPF) Bluetooth phone [Info from GM online order guide]

Y44 (m-y '11) - Seating Package - Includes leather seating surfaces, 8-way power passenger seat, 2-way power driver and front passenger lumbar control, Memory Package, heated front seats, Universal Home Remote, (AP9) trunk convenience net, (BNK) Underhood Appearance Package and (UPF) Bluetooth for phone [Info from GM online order guide]

RAB,
Concerning the Reverse/Tilt-Down passenger and driver side mirrors on the 2009 m-y. My CTS is a 2009 m-y built in Aug 2008. It has this feature and it is able to be turned on/off in the DIC custom settings. Maybe this was deleted later in the m-y builds?

Hadn't realized that early m-y 2009 CTS's (18,517 of them!) were factory-equipped with the Heated Washer Fluid System.

M.Dubb1969, thanks. Regarding the "Park Tilt Mirror" feature... my 2009 m-y CTS was built in late May 2009 (some 9 months after your '09 CTS was built) and there's no option on my vehicle in DIC Vehicle Customization to turn the feature on/off. The feature was evidently removed at some point during 2009 m-y production. Who knows?.. perhaps it was mistakenly left out later in 2009 m-y production at a time when a revision was made to DIC vehicle customization software. A short time after it was removed (on mid or late m-y '09's) the feature mysteriously returned when they began building the 2010 m-y CTS, in July 2009. I wish Cadillac would make up its mind about this! :bonkers:

It's interesting to note that Park Tilt Mirrors are not even mentioned in the 2009 CTS owner's manual (or the 2010 & 2011 owner manuals). The feature is however mentioned/explained in the 2008 owner's manual, as well as, I've just noticed, in the "2009 Cadillac CTS Customer Convenience/Personalization Guide", on page 11. Here's a link to the 2009 guide for anyone interested in downloading it: http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2252733/2009-cadillac-cts-customer-convenience-personalization-guide-pdf-september-20-2010-8-36-am?da=y

I had the Park Tilt Mirror feature in my 2008 CTS4, however ended up turning it off after a few weeks of using it. I found that my preferred (memory set) position of the mirrors would always "drift" after a number of park (reverse) operations. I was forever correcting the position of my mirrors!
These days, if/when I need to see the curb during a parking manoeuvre, I'll just tilt the mirror down 'manually' using the mirror controls and then bring it back to its original position (if I choose to stay in the car) using memory recall. Otherwise.. an exit/auto-lock/re-entry sequence will do the memory recall for me.

RAB,
Cadillac does seem to change their mind a lot. Just to clarify, when you say that the park/tilt feature is removed in vehicle personalization, do you mean that there is no park/tilt feature at all, or do you mean that it is there, but the owner just can't turn it on or off? Thanks for the link to the Customer Convenience/Personalization Guide. My used car did not come with any manuals at all. But, the curious thing is that I did download a 2009 CTS Owners Manual from somewhere online the day I bought the car. That downloaded copy does mention the park/tilt mirrors in section 2-54.

Thankfully, I have not had the mirror drift problem when using the feature. So far I'm really loving the car. I have a few issues that I want the dealer to take care of (I'm still under warranty), but I think it's a great car. I took a big leap of faith after driving Hondas for the last 15 years!

RAB

M.Dubb1969, I meant there is no park/tilt feature at all on my '09 CTS - it is not there, not listed in vehicle personlization.

I just found the brief reference to Park Tilt Mirrors in the '09 CTS owner's manual, page 2-54. [Good find! I hadn't looked there earlier today.. I was looking (only) through the DIC Vehicle Customization pages, for any ref to setting up Park Tilt Mirrors]. The wording on page 2-54 is interesting, in that it mentions, "If the vehicle has this feature....".
In the '08 CTS owner's manual, detail about turning the Park Tilt Mirror feature On or Off (and which mirrors - Passenger and/or Driver mirror) is provided in the DIC Vehicle Customization section. This same information (contained within the DIC info section of the '08 manual) is completely absent in the '09 and subsequent m-y owner's manuals.

Glad to hear you're really loving your '09 CTS! I hope you continue to enjoy it.
After driving a fully-optioned 304HP 2008+ CTS for almost 4 years now, I must say I am still very partial to the car. There's really no other sport sedan I'd want to purchase at the moment.. certainly nothing in the same price range. My wife and I are looking to get a luxury crossover vehicle within the next 6-12 months, so there could be a 308HP LFX-equipped 2012 SRX Premium sometime in our future. Maybe. ;) It will be hard to give up my CTS.

Rab: I'm starting to think that we should never say never with the CTS. I have 2010 wagon, early build in May of 2009. The car has (CE1) rainsense wipers, (CE4) headlight washers, (G80) Positraction rear axle with FE2 in AWD, and (J55) Hvy duty brakes. All of the above comes from the build sheet. Go figure!

Stoneybrook, go figure is right! Your early build 2010 CTS Sportwagon was built at the exact same time (May of '09) as my 2009 CTS Sedan. Although your Sportwagon is labeled a 2010 m-y vehicle, it has the content of a 2009 m-y car!
All info/details provided in my post #6 pertain specifically to the CTS "Sedan". I stayed away from including detail on the other eventual CTS bodystyles for a few reasons: too big a task.. too big a post (I think it was already overly long & complicated).. and frankly my unfamiliarity with the finer points of standard content info and option/package detail of the CTS Sportwagon and CTS Coupe.

You can tell us all now.. is the Coupe your car.. or is it really HER car? :D

Naw; she does not like all the shifting with the stick...though she actually runs through the gears cleaner than I do. She is a speed freak though, though. Did not realize it until a few rides in the Z where I would get up to 130 or so. (Under very safe conditions).

Among her other rewards is a Lexus RX350 which she loves: sits up high, feels safe, & runs smoooooth. Here is shot of her with it the day it arrived on flat bed.

One of our favorite fun activities is long drives with some of the 4000 songs I've accumulated. I like to say "I got my girl, my car, and my tunes; life is good". :D

Apologies to the OP for "stealing" the thread. It drives me a little when others do it to my posts.

Promise not to make a habit of it.

So, if a 2008 CTS has the 18" wheels, then it definitely has either the Y42 or Y43 performance packages, right? If anyone can let me know it would really help!! Thanks

sterling, that's correct. If a 2008 CTS has factory 18" wheels installed then it can be assumed the car is equipped with either the Y42 (FE2) package or the Y43 (FE3) package. To be sure however about what the car has or doesn't have (equipment & package-wise), the vehicle's rpo sticker should be reviewed. The sticker is located on the underside of the spare tire compartment cover.
Although the same basic wheel design, the 18" wheel on an '08/'09 CTS was available in a painted finish (rpo P75 wheels) or a high-polished finish (rpo P63 wheels). Y42/FE2 came standard with painted-finish 18" wheels, with the high-polished finish 18" wheels available at extra cost. Y43/FE3 came standard with the high-polished finish 18" wheels.

Awesome! Thanks for the great answer. Haha hopefully I'll be posting in the forum soon, I had a cts of the previous generation until recently. The looks of the light platinum CTS with off white interior leather is stunning..must..have it!

The light platinum interior is beautiful but difficult to keep clean, at least in my experience. Almost any contact with the door panels or other hard plastics seems to mark them up, and they aren't easy to clean - had to use a magic eraser. The dye from jeans transfers to the seat and is also tough to clean. Also, the rubber seals around the door openings are a light color as well and become yellowish over time, not to mention show dirt very well. Just an FYI.

BTW, if you have an older CTS that still has the wiper water heater you can turn it back on by just reinstalling the fuse. I don't think they actually took them out. They worked just fine. The problem was a little old lady that stuck the button 'On' and caused a little smoke. That's what caused the recall. Mine worked just fine in the winter.

GM recall requires dealer removal and disposal of heater module and fuse. So 2008-09 CTS Heated Windshield Washer System is intact only if 1.) recall was not performed on the vehicle, or 2.) aftermarket AlphaTherm replacement unit and fuse were installed after the recall was performed.

Although risk of fire was minimal (~0.0056% of installed units), recall documents (http://nhthqnwws111.odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/documentList.do?docId=10V240&docType=RCL&fromPublic=true) reveal "four fires are believed to have occurred due to the failure of the [heater module] solder cup. Three of these occurred while the vehicles were unattended." And, reportedly, at least one of those fires damaged or destroyed the vehicle owner’s attached garage and residence.

My OEM unit worked just fine, too. Now the AlphaTherm replacement is even better. Great for summer bugs or winter frost.

I suspect that is why black interiors are so popular these days.
