So the VIN decoder posted and referenced in the RWD FAQ/Tech thread (How rare is my Cadillac?) is cool but does anyone know of something similar for cars older than 1980?
That site doesn't go past 1980 and I wanted to run the VIN on my 69 Calais :P

Outside shot, try GM Historic Services. Have you looked for your build sheet?

Lucky for you, GM didn't lose the '69 build records. You can purchase a build sheet from the heritage cente (http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/?page=2)r for $50.

Thanks guys. I did look for the build sheet when I had the back seat out but I'm afraid it's long gone. maybe I'll spend the $50 on a new one.
As a 1969 Calais sedan, your VIN should read N9 (1969 Calais hardtop sedan), followed by a six digit sequence that denotes the build number, 100001 and up. It's the cowl plate on the firewall under the hood that will tell you build date (month and week), original interior and exterior color, and factory installed options.

ya i found the vin this past weekend finally...now just gatta figure on what all the options were :)
If you shoot me a pic of the data plate on the cowl, I can look them up in the 1969 data book.
