Apparently the new Cobra Jet Mustang has a jet turbine under the hood. At least that's what it looks like judging by this spy photo:

What on earth?!

No that isn't an air scoop, it's a new accessory to be available throughout the South, it's the "June Bug Collector and Processor." It not only collects this free food source but processes it from raw material to a high protein food supplement.

Looks like the testers had a sense of humor and alot of fiberglass laying around... I hope the release version comes with the "Hoosier Drag Package"!

But on the bright side, it's not physically possible for that car to overheat!

The Cobra Jet is Ford's turnkey drag racer, so they normally come with Hoosier slicks on the rear and skinnies on the front.

Previous versions have not included a hood scoop of such comical proportions, however....

When was the last time Ford made a Cobra Jet? The last year that comes to mind is 1969-70.

My family owns a 69 Super Cobra Jet mustang with the factory drag package. It has a detroit locker in the rear end, manual steering, manual brakes, and a radio delete. It sits under a car cover in grandma's garage with only 1600 miles on it. Such a shame. I bet Leno would snatch it up in a heartbeat....

I thought you didn't deploy the parachute till after the 'run'.

So let me get this straight: in 1969 you had three fantastic, top performance Mustangs to choose from: Boss 302 (meant for SCCA racing...high winding, screaming small block V8, great handling suspension), the Boss 429 (meant for Nascar racing...big block, quick in a straight line, not a good handler) and the Cobra Jets (meant for drag racing). Now I'm curious, were the Cobra Jets just powered by the 428? Was it a separate model or sold with the Mach 1?

I dont know much about the model line but our 69 SCJ is 428 powered, 4 spd with a shaker scoop. It is NOT a Mach 1. Same body style though...

They've been offering it again since 2008.
