: How low can you go?

The V2 manual says our gas tanks hold 18 gallons. When my low fuel warning comes on, I have about 40 miles showing on the "Range". Since I get about 20 mpg at 74 mph, this means I have about 2 gallons of fuel left when I get the low fuel indication.

Knowing this, I thought it would be good to back check the range indicator, and in my car, it's very accurate. I drove another 26.7 miles to the gas station after the warning. With 2 gallons estimated in the tank and 20 mpg, I should have about (40-26.7)/40 x 2 = .665 gallons left. So the gas pump would show 18 gallons when full - .665 gallons left = 17.225 gallons at fill up.

Look at the pics to see the actual amount of fill-up.

it also depends on how your car is tilted.

when I hit the fill up and 0 on the tank and still drive 10 more miles I can only put 16.7 in, and I only get 15 mpg...

Looks like GM may have left some extra margin in the gauge to help prevent fuel pump failures!

Best regards,

As sad as this sounds, I wish the gas down here was still at that price...

Maybe Costco doesn't really give a full gallon of gas, but still charges for it?

I have had the needle at below the empty line and still only get 16 gallons on fill up.

rofl!

When is a loaf of bread a loaf? Seems that everything is not what it used to be! But maybe I am just getting too old to remember clearly.

Why do people wait till their that low on fuel to fill up?

buddyg

Because I can only get like 230 to 240 miles on a tank. I feel like I am filling up every other day!

When the car is level, my light comes on with 2 gallons remaining, too. It does vary with the level of the car. The light in my '08 CTS came on with 4 gallons remaining, so it either varies from car to car, or they changed it for '09.

Get Kramer to go with you and find out for sure! :)

Shell sucks in my area, and I'm not too fond of purchasing from a company that actively advertises they inject inert gas into something that's supposed to be combustible. My cars have run noticeably worse while running it. I use Exxon/BP/texaco, and I don't see how low I can go. Fuel is the coolant the pump uses. Constantly running low will eventually kill it.

LOL, seinfeld ftw. I always rag on my brother for "pulling a Kramer"

There are several local gas stations that cheat people on what they pay for a gallon.

I didnt figure this out untill we started filling up our own boats at local gas stations.

Some stations are so bad that i can put exactly 6 gallons of fuel into a 5 gallon container. They say it is from bulging of the container which is full of crap, as i can go to a bp station and it fits 5 gallons exactly into it.

VA does not regulate accuracy or maintiance of gas station pumps, so it would not surprise me. as long as the tanks don't leak you can do whatever you want.
