The transmission in my 2005 STS is all of a sudden "bumping" during highway driving at 60 mph to 80 mph. Less that 60K miles. Any ideas???

Describe bumping more eloquently.

When driving along at highway speeds (60- 80- don't tell the PA state police), the car periodically starts to sort of "hard shift" almost like a manual tranny. Backing off the accelerator does not solve the problem, unless I get back down to about 50mph or below....at which there is no sign of the problem at all. Although fairly mechanical, I am not a transmission guy whatsoever....so any input anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. The car is a 2005 and is out of warranty, despite only having about 58K miles on it- most of those highway miles.

The factory has a software fix for shifting problems.

Is there a factory term for the software fix and what would the estimated cost be for that fix?? Thank you very much for your input- I appreciate it.

Have the dealer look at Tech Service Bulletin 06-07-30-030A. Should be about an hour labor so about $125 or so after tax.
