: need better belts!

So, at 153 mph on the front straight at pocono this past weekend, the main accy belt (not AC, not supercharger) shreds. I mean, shreds, belts and cords all over the place.

So, who makes the most bullet-proof, kevlar reinforced, krptonite-enhanced belt for this car (this is a '09 CTS-v LSA). I picked up a Continental to get me going again, but is there something better?

Thanks for any pointers.

if your driving a 09 that you bought in 09 and your racing it you should have replaced it.

Try www.discountfleetsupply.com ask them for the Gates HD (ALL GREEN). I got them for the SC 9.55" belt. Super heat resistant, made from Chuck Norris's underware. No seriously gates has HD you just have to ask/dig for them.

LOL... Love it.
When Chuck Norris does push ups, he pushes the earth down.

Yeah, i overlooked it. I've changed brake, transmission, rear, p/s fluid three times, but never did the belts. I agree, i should have.

So now, I am, but want something "better".

Thanks for the pointers on the gates green.. are they better than GatorBacks, or Continentals?

Are these better than the "Gates Racing Belts" which are blue?

So why aren't we getting these with our pulley kits then? Mine was a NAPA Micro V, black in color.

I can get the green ones, and use them on my car, but most people dont like the look of the green belt so i dont ship them with the kits. I can though if people ask. They are usually cheaper than the black ones....

Jesse, can you ship me a green one when you ship the ported snout and 2.55 upper? Any ETA on that?

Are they really that much better though? One isolated incident isn't really enough evidence for me at this point.

When I contacted Gates they told me 40% stronger-less stretch than green stripe belt with 60% greater heat resistance then stripe belt for longer life.

Does the ALL GREEN belt look a "little goofy" yep-er, but they work!

Following up on this thread..

I narrowed it down to using either Goodyear Gatorback, or Gates 'HD' belts.

Long story short - the Gates HD belts are not exactly easy to get. Most distributors don't have them and have extended lead times.

On the other hand, the Gatorbacks where only 1 day away at my local auto parts store. So that is the route I went this time.

Also, as an aside, research showed that the Continental ContiTech Conti-V Multirib are a pretty good belt too.

Also, here is a youtube of the moment I realized I lost the belt!
