Hey,

I picked up a 500 engine. I'm planning to put it in my 78 Sedan DeVille.
Even after researching I still have a couple of questions regarding the matter of installation.

From what I understand a 500 swap should be pretty much bolt-in. There is the matter of cutting the passenger side control arm bolt, and the oil pan issue. The 500 is out of a RWD, so I think I'll have to swap the oil pan and check for crank clearance.

What I'm wondering is can I use the accessories from my 425 and bolt them to the 500?

Thanks for the support everyone!

When I get the chance I will take some pics and post down the casting numbers to make sure I have a true 500, also I'm hoping these numbers will tell me the year too.

You can use the 425 accessories and the oil pan/pickup tube. I believe you have to get the casting number off the crank to tell the difference between 500/472.

dont know if you completed the swap yet but i just put a 500 in my 77 last month with headers.yes, you either cut or turn around the control arm bolts on the pass side.if you're using the ac,the brackets for the ac are different.people sell them on ebay.also the heater hose hookup on the back of the pass head is straight where the 425 has a 90 deg.fitting.thats all i can think of at the moment.

Turning the bolt is a great idea. Never thought of that...
