I have had several K&N's, they did a good job. I have a Volant on my Escalade, I would get another one, the look, fit and finish were very good. I see that Vararam is offering one too, I had their system on my Z06's and it worked very well, I may look into one on my 05' Escalade.

that's what i figured. just a lot of money to spend for something that might or might not add much for you.

I still think the air intake on any car is the biggest bang for the buck

yeah, you're probably right. of course, i haven't replaced anything else either :)

the thing that almost has me sold is the mpg gains. i'm not worried about hp. i don't drag race it and it's fast enough to merge into any traffic and powerful enough to tow/haul whatever i want. so i just want to spend less at the pump. and i'm not sure it will help me enough to make it worth it.

Tdogg You can get the Volant intake for about $288 at http://www.eautoworks.com/ and add the optional scoop for about $106, you will notice a performance and see an MPG improvement. I love mine :)

After doing some research online and especially from this website and its members (truly the best place for help), I went with the AEM Brute Force Intake. I really like it and I do feel the performance gain. There is also a deep throaty sound coming from under the hood when you step on it but not to loud to become irritating. I only had it installed for about a week and haven't checked the MPG gains yet. I will let you know when I have the results.

I looked at the Volant too but I wanted to be different here in Hawaii because everyone is using the Volant in their SUVs. I think both systems are great intake systems. Good Luck deciding.

if you do an intake do you have to get the hood to notice mpg gain?? i can't get any higher than 11.6 mpg no matter how i drive!! Would i be able to put the intake on myself?

yeah. cold air intakes are pretty easy with hand tools. i've done it on a few cars before with no trouble. i'm not worried about performance gains (it's fast enough for me considering it's a large suv) but i would like a good mpg increase. i forgot those things can be loud. the cai i had on my last car was loud, but so was the exhaust and turbo so i didn't care. but i would on my escalade.
