I need to change the tape on the Left Hand door regulator.

I have regulator out and on work area.

1987 FSM's info on nylon Guide/Block separation on page 10-5-6 Doors.

I have the roll pin removed.

"Insert thin flat head screw driver into slot at the bottom of guide. While pressing up on screwdriver, push down on guide to separate guide and block."

I believe I have the flat blade screwdriver in the correct location.

Q: How much force does this Guide/Block separation require?

Thanks for any help.

A: Not much force is needed if you push up on the guide, not down. :bigroll:

Late edit: After posting the above, I questioned my answer which opposed the instructions in the FSM as to the separation of the Guide/Block.

I have 2 images of regulators on eBay. On my LH door regulator the Guide and Block was installed like those of the 2 ebay images. However, already having the lower door panel removed, I went out to look at the regulator on my RH door which I believe has had less maintenance than the LH door. The Guide and Block is installed reversed as compared to the LH door regulator.

Now, if you follow the instructions in the FSM for my RH door regulator;

"Insert thin flat head screw driver into slot at the bottom of guide. While pressing up on screwdriver, push down on guide to separate guide and block."

These instructions now work. I would have to say that the Guide and Block in the 2 images I mention above and the the installation on my LH door regulator were incorrectly installed.

This means that the "slot" in the Guide should be towards the bottom of the door and the roll pin towards the top of door.

I will try to post some pics after my repair is completed.

In the meantime I still would like to pose the below question

** End Edit ***

I have question about the lubrication of a new tape.

Q:What kind, how much, and where?

If the FSM mentions lubrication of the regulator tape, I haven't found it yet.

Thanks for any help.

The recent discovery between the different installations of the Guide and Block between the LH regulator and the RH regulator on my 1987 prompts another question.

Those familiar with the regulator, or have one they can look at will quickly see that the only way for the guide to be reversed is to either have been that way originally or, remove the two rivets that hold the guide strip to the base plate.

The additional question I now pose is;

Q: Does anyone know of a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for the Guide and Block that may have resulted in this reversal?

Also, I still would like to know about the lubrication of a new tape.

Q:What kind, how much, and where?

Thanks for any help.
