I love this car, but it has some problems. I would love to start working on it but I cannot figure out how to define the obd codes. I have searched in google and this forum but the codes just do not match up? a link would be wonderful. even better if somebody has the time to tell me how to fix and what the codes actually mean!

the car has 160k. the abs light, traction control light is on. car doesnt seem to want to go when you step on it, my eldorado was way faster. brakes are squeaking ( is that why the abs light is on?). car shifts fine w/ normal driving but when you floor it it doesnt downshift like its supposed to. after car starts it says check emmissions system.:bouncy:

Check your connections......
You don't have power because you're running very lean.....and it doesn't look like you EBTCM is talking to the PCM

Yep, that link is in the sticky post ^^^ "How to pull codes" at the top of this forum's page of threads- as well as the link to OBD1 codes.........

P0171 and P0174 usually point to vacuum leaks. That will also set the lean codes.

89 falcon... thank you so much for the list! now I have somewhere to start, just learned what and where the ebtcm is "__ ___ traction control mudule" .. what does the e and b stand for?

00deville... i ran acrossed that link multiple times searching for my answers and it did not have a list, nor did it seem like it was the right link, thats why I asked..

submariner, i will check for vacum lines thank you!

EBTCM = Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module. It controls the ABS as well as the TC. Follow the brake lines from the master cylinder to it.

Look again. Up at the top under MASTER INDEX, you have to click on what code list you want. Manufacture Codes (xxx), Body Codes (Bxxxx), Chassis Codes (Cxxxx), Powertrain Codes (Pxxxx) or Network Codes (Uxxxx)

ok ok, my codes have two letters pcxxxx ? i guess that doesnt matter? if it doesn't matter then how is one supposed to know that they are looking at the correct codes? pxxxx is not the same as pcxxxx i think that something should be noted about that? or maybe the codes should say pc? i dont know,,, this is just my ignorant opinion . maybe I am missing something?

Consider a PC code a P code.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that '96 was the transition year from OBDI to OBDII so you may have some of each. Any codes you can't find in OBDII http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/dtcobd2.html will be found in OBDI http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/dtcobd1.html

ok thank you... that clears it ALL up for me! I read that it was a transition year, but did not read anything that there might be a mixture of codes. so weird. I would expect cadillac to be more organized with something like obd codes. I think highly of cadillac and maybe I just have high expectations. thank you again
