I have an 2001, this is the second time within a year that I have to change the main belt, does anyone know what the problem could be.

I had that same problem, I'm not too sure if its the exact same problem but with me it was the belt tensioner, replaced the bearing hasn't done it since. What I would recommend is to take off the belt spin the tensioner and see if it spins freely, also check for any obstructions maybe rubbing up against the belt. Hope this helps.

+1. Mine just froze up, causing the belt to break! Only happened once for me.

This sounds like your belt tensioner, did you hear any type of squealing previous to it snapping?
