500 "from another" (Deville I presume)..

500 "from Eldo"

455 Rocket is Olds not Cad...

The 500 is a 500; doesn't matter where it comes from. Unfortunately, it's incompatible with your car. Fortunately, it's not that hard to make it fit, and the rest of your drive-train will match. The blocks are so similar that it won't be a huge job to fabricate mounts.

500 and 472 are the same. just put the 500 from another Deville in, pretty much a direct bolt in.

^'68 used the 429; there's some differences.

1968 is the first year for the 472, of which the 500 is just a bored and stroked version. So, the 500 should bolt right in. Don't know about the 455.

1968 was the first year of the 472. The 500 is the same block, just different crank, heads, etc.

Use the 500 as it is better than a '68 472 which had oil passage issues.

I believe the Eldo 500 had some other differences in the engine configuration but not a big deal.

Check out MTS and CAD for the best 472/500 advice and parts there is.

The 455 isn't a direct bolt in. You can get it in but you'll have to get the exhaust done after because it wont line up. The tranny will bolt up to Caddy, Buick, Olds and Pontiac but putting an Olds in would not be as easy as a caddy motor. So maybe they meant they trannys interchange but not the motors.

Sorry about that... I forgot that they upgraded the engine, but didn't really change the body.

Definitely go with the 500. Much easier to install. Then the Oldsmobile motor
