: Went to Byron today

05-01-11, 01:00 AM
I received the handheld back with reduced shift points and modified pressure to take care of the tranny issues I had. If you recall I was either slipping or running into the limiter on every shift. The changes Jesse made corrected the transmission issues. Car shifts great. I am still having issues with the nitrous firing consistently and through the whole 1/4 mile.

The first time it activated but only partially. The next 2 runs. It did not activate at all.
A funny car hit the wall today and I didn't even get to the trackuntil around 2:00.
I only got 4 runs today.

I will check all the wiring and try and trouble shoot this tomorrow.

I ran my "NO Nitous tune" in 1,980 DA today with a 25mph head wind.

Then I ran the Nitrous tune with 7 degrees of timing pulled out for the 150 shot.
The nitrous did come on, because the intake and SC were cold, however it certainly wasn't a 150 hit for the 1/4 mile. See slip. I included my best run with the LSA and a 35 pill as a comparison.

I was very dissapointed because I wanted to work on dialing in the progressive programmer today. Instead I am scratching my head on the best way to attack the faulty Nitrous activation. Note, I was running brand new fuel and nitrous solenoids. I sent my old ones is for service and repair if necessary. It appears to me now that it is not the solenoids.
I had the same problem last week. Very frustrating. So I will be checking all wiring and running some tests to see what is going on.

More test and tuning coming. I'll get it right.

LSX on ? shot.

Not bad considering the wind today, it was brutal!

05-01-11, 08:19 AM
That's still a fast run. Good luck with your nitrous system, you'll get it figured out. At least your tranny issues were solved. Mine aren't.:crybaby:

05-01-11, 08:33 AM
If I had more time, Jesse wanted me to load the 100 shot tune and change the pills to see how that setup ran. I did not have time.
I will do this next time when I have a full day for T&T. I need to datalog the runs as well.

05-01-11, 10:01 AM
Curtis I would look at the window switch first then a loose ground. What did you run with the stock motor and the no nitrous tune? Can you post those 2 slips. I'm mainly interested in you 60' with the new motor.

05-01-11, 12:42 PM
Thanks, I am looking at everything as we speak.

Ok here is more data

Hitting the rev limiter in every gear
12:02 pm Da 210

RT .343
60' 1.614
330 4.510
1/8 6.928
mph 98.11
1000 9.027
1/4 10.780
mph 131.22

Then I went out yesterday and did 4 runs with the updated tunes.

Here is the nitrous 150 and No nitrous with 25mph head winds.
The other runs were with Nitrous tune but the nitrous never activated, Wasted Runs, due to 7 degrees of timing pulled on the tune. 60s were about the same

Nitrous was at 4:27pm with 1,980 DA
No Nitrous was at 2:26 with 2,024 DA
Let me know what you think happened if you can tell by the slips.

I did notice the MPH on the motor run 4/17 was 131.22, while the MPH on nitrous run 4/30 was only 133.41. Not sure how to interpret that but it stuck out to me.

Anyway, I need more T&T and seat time in the new build. Also, look at the dragster with a 144mph 1/8 that let off. I thought my car stalled when he blew by :)

That mph... :holycrap:

You picked up 9 mph on the 150 shot. Looks correct to me.

You spun on the nitrous run or didnt spray out of the hole. Your motor and nitrous 60ft's were almost the same but you ran much quicker to the 330" and 1/8 and to the 1/4. Get your 60ft down and she will fly!

05-02-11, 09:47 PM
I have been having trouble with traction, spinning out of the hole on motor. I have more torque now. I hope it is because it has been the cold and early season prep.
It was 55-65 degrees and no sun. I think I got the nitrous programmer to activate properly so all that is left is seat time and dialing in the delivery of the nitrous so as to not spin.
Next weekend, I will have a full day to tweak and get some more time behind the wheel.

I am confident this car can do much better than the 10.274. I just need to get familiar with it.
In good DA/weather, (without a head wind of 25mph) a good 60ft, a good nitrous delivery, I should be in the 9s.
That is my goal.

05-02-11, 09:52 PM
looking good. 9's are coming....

I appreciate the support and confidence Dom! I am working on it feavorishly.

just really need to get your 60' down. One thing you will notice is you can make or break your 1/4 mi time in the first 60ft

05-02-11, 10:50 PM
You haven't gotten kicked off the track yet? :cool2:
Are you spinning at all with these 1.4/1.5 60' times?

05-02-11, 10:54 PM
So far this year I am spinning.
Last year with the LSA I did not spin with the 1.497 60ft.
I got more torque on motor with the LSX. Gotta get used to it.

Good luck with the new combo. From my experience what ever you loose on your 60' you can double the ammount and this is what is added to your finish line ET. Ex. If you are 0.10 sec off from your best 60' you will add 0.20 sec to your finish line ET.

I am still waiting for the tracks to open here.

Best of luck,

The extra weight will hold the nose down a bit and could add to the spinning you are seeing. Are you running the new MT's? What pressure?

Good luck this weekend.

05-06-11, 12:45 AM
Well the last time out, I got there around 2:00 and there were a few grand nationals in my usual area. Nice guys. They were very impressed with the caddy.
after a run, they came over to check it out and chat. They said they were hooking at 18lbs of pressure. It didn't occur to me that I had more powa than them until they ran
mid 11s. Rookie mistake. I ran their pressure at 18 and then 17 and 15. Never went down to 14 or 13, which I have in the past. Not enough runs were made.

I missed my bud Larry (GNXS). Anyway, after the day, I was talking to some 9 second guys who said the track was greasy still from rain that week and cold weather.

Oh well. I hope to get there Saturday. We'll see.

Meanwhile, I too am testing things as well.
This should help for the back end of the 1/4........ :sneaky:

My buddy just put the Nano kit on his Z and is running the spare fuel tank n stuff too. He's been working at it for two months and should be done this weekend. I think he's hoping for 9.40's

05-06-11, 08:34 AM
OH and yes, I had the new MTs last time out.

They are calling for showers Sat @ my track.
It is closed for Mothers Day.
Looks like next week unless the weather improves.

The NANO deal is real nice for maintaining the same line pressure. But with your small jet size i doubt the pressure drop is much, it however is helping you to keep the same pressure regardless of the bottle temp and volume of liquid nitrous in your bottle.

You should see the pressure drop on a big 4 system pass, even with 2 bottles. I have seen over a 200 psi drop on my racepak computer on a big tune up, this is just on a 1/8th mile pass, but its running 4.20's so different animal all together.

Good luck and keep us updated. Cant wait to see that 9.90 slip.

05-06-11, 09:24 PM
Thanks Dale. I appreciate the encouragement.

I'm working hard to get a 9.xx slip and hope this set-up can do it.

I'll be proud to post up if and when it happens.

05-10-11, 05:25 PM
I spoke to Chris at Nitrous outlet Friday and he confirmed that there were issues with the solenoids. The Nitrous noid was not pulsing below 900 psi. Weird.......
I asked him what could have caused that and he was not sure, possibly bad batch of solenoids. He said it appeared ok but was just not functioning properly. The noids are on their way back.
I'll use them as spares cause I bought a new set earlier. Hopefully, this weekend will turn out ok and I can get a clean run or two.

Maybe GNXS will be able to go and we can get some footage. I know he is wanting to try his new tune out as well.

05-10-11, 05:41 PM
Good luck.

05-10-11, 06:39 PM
i'm heading to byron this sunday

05-10-11, 07:27 PM
What time will you be there and what are you driving? I usually get there when they open the gates around 9:00.

05-10-11, 09:01 PM
I have a Camaro SS now. I am meeting some of the guys from our local club there. I will probably get there around 9-9:30.

05-10-11, 09:57 PM
If you get time, say hello. It would be good to meet you.

05-11-11, 12:37 AM
It would be good to meet you.

there are some guys here who will contest you on that, lulz

Just checked weather in Byron Il and they are now calling for 50% chance of rain Sat and 60% chance on Sunday.

What is the deal with weekend rain here?

I think Drumstix is using the force against me. It is strong with him.
