Picked up the car yesterday. Super excited. Will take a while to learn about all the electronic doodads and toys. It's painfully hard to drive it around like a minivan - can't wait till 1500 miles.

I floored the car the first day I had the damn car. The more you baby these cars, the easier they break. Nothing is gonna happen to the engine.

This has been debated on many forums and you can find equal numbers in each camp. The engines are run at the factory for longer than you would think, so they are not completely green.

I am of the camp that a break in period is not necessary.

Smoke if you got em!

Pics to come after a complete detail and wax next week. Too much pollen in Atlanta now for it to look good at the moment! I will not baby it completely, boost gauge will move, but I doubt I will be wide open throttle anytime soon.......

I believe that the break-in period is primarily for the differential, transmission and brake parts to get used to each other, not the engine. It's easier to break in a manual transmission car, even in a city environment, because you can run the rpm up and down in the lower gears without too much speed, although with the "V" you will need to watch the speedometer because the car is sneaky fast. After 500 miles I would do just that, but at higher speeds.

Which dealership did you get it from?

Congrats on the new ride!

I have had my 11 V Sedan for about a month now. I tried to vary the RPM for the first 500 miles and keep it below 5k but after that I have just been driving it the way it was meant to be driven. I did change the oil at 500 miles but only because I found out it sat on the dealers lot since the summer.

Congrats on your wagon. I've got the same car being built the week of May 16th. I'm fired up! I think we're gonna have a pretty rare machine on our hands. I'm a Chevy dealer and searched nationally and there was only one new stick wagon in dealer inventory in the US when I checked! And about the break-in, I'm a big believer in "Drive it like you stole it". Just my two cents......

I've got a Black Diamond CTS-V Wagon with the 6MT and everything else available except the roof rack sitting at the dealer's showroom as a favor so he can display it as a halo car. As I have several other cars, I gave him four weekends to use it for a "come on." I am looking forward to finally picking up and taking it on the Hot Rod Power Tour this year catching up with the Tour in Indianapolis. I took my 2010 CTS wagon on the Tour last year and it drew a lot of comments, all favorable. Now I have three wagons, the 2010 CTS and the 2011 V in the Midwest and a 2011 CTS wagon out in L.A. I guess I like the Cadillac wagon and I will be sad to see them disappear in 2014. I'm guessing that there won't be more than twenty or thirty of the Black Diamond 6MT built and depending on the options on those cars a few will only be ones of one or two. They could be amongst the rarest modern Cadillacs ever built.

Do you really think there will be so many? I was thinking there would be more like 50 6MT Wagons built period!
I don't know that I would expect the BD to be the rarest color of 6MT Wagon though. I'm pretty sure that honor will go to Evolution Green- has anyone even heard of one?

What makes you think they will quit making them in 2014?

Zeolite, where do you live? I'm in Buckhead. Almost never see any V's around down, and I've never seen another MT besides mine.

I read someplace that when gen 3 V's come out there will not be a wagon in the mix. It wouldn't surprise me as the real halo car would be a V convertible. I'm guessing if resources are allocated for the gen 3 V's it will be more towards the convertible line than another wagon. I also understand that the gen 3 CTS line will get smaller. I'm dying to see what GM does for horsepower when the CAFE rules come in terms of engine size not horsepower. You can get a tremendous amount of horsepower through turbo charging so we could see 500 horsepower V-6 engines with twin turbos. Mind you, I'm not a fan of them compared to supercharging or naturally aspirated V-8's but I can see them coming in the future.

O.K., how many Black Diamond CTS-V 6 MT Wagons are out there? If you have one, what did you get as additional options? Has anyone ordered the roof rack option? As an aside, now that orders of the 2011 V Wagons have closed and perhaps production has concluded, I'm curious to know how many 6 MT Wagons of any stripe were built for the production year 2011?

Did you get the suede steering wheel and gear shift knob or the roof rack?

I've got black diamond wagon, 6mt, everything exc I did not get block heater or. roof rack. I did get the fuzzy shifter and wheel. Was flip-floppin on whether or not to get the sunroof. Saw a wagon w/o a sunroof and that's a crapload of interior roof length and didn't like the look. Went with the roof. I'm fired up. Driving a v-sedan auto right now and absolutely love the car, terrific everyday driver and cathartic when you hit the loud pedal. Had to grab a stick wagon for the total freakshow factor. I mean, a 190 mph stick shift wagon while a tree hugger is in the whitehouse? Can be the rarest ever!!!!!!!!

The biggest rarity combination for cadillac will be the 6mt wagaon with NO moonroof. I think only 2-3 might exist in that combination. With the stick disappearing from the wagon option you guys have a really rare car on your hands. Now the biggest problem with that is do you tuck it away for 20 years or do you romp on it from day 1 =)

You really think so? I have a 6MT with all options except the sunroof. I'm not tucking mine away, but I will be taking very good care of it.

I would have to say there is no more than 10 in that combo.

Nope. Think of how rare. There were only a few wagons sold for 2011 and most likely only very few were manuals and of that manual & no sunroof

hmm. You might be right, I swear I heard it was being discontinued for the wagon. Maybe I did confuse it with the 3.6 deletion. Lack of sleep = fail

We all know that 6MT V-wagons are very rare so now comes the hard part. Now that the order book is closed for 2011 for the V-wagon, could one of you better connected guys on the site find out from Cadillac just how many V-wagons were built and if you are really good, find out how many were stick and how many were auto. If you want to transcend to godlike powers, find out what the rarest combination of options, color, etc. came out of the factory for 2011 for the V-wagon.

As for me, I plan to drive my Black Diamond, 6MT, with suede, sunroof, heater, safety package and no roof rack until the wheels fall off. I'm even doing part of the Hot Rod Power Tour with the wagon starting June 8th in Indianapolis. I took my 3.6 wagon on some of the Power Tour last year and had everyone excited as even the 3.6 is not your everyday automobile. So many stopped to look and had great compliments about the wagon last year. I can't wait to see the response this year for the V-wagon.

It's unclear if there will be a wagon at all after this CTS expires. ATS will have coupe, sedan and convertible. Maybe a wagon, maybe not. gen 3 CTS will be sedan only. There may be a coupe but rumors are it will not carry the CTS moniker. And the next CTS will be bigger, not smaller. I saw some rumors that the next CTS-V will be 600+ hp. ATS-V ~450.

CTSV_Rob
05-09-11, 12:27 AM
Are you going to be in a ATS at that point Jimmy?

JimmyH
05-09-11, 12:39 AM
Maybe. I keep saying the ATS-V will be too small for me. But what the hell. What do I need a big car for? We gotz the Enclave for dat.
As long as the wheelbase is at least 108", ATS-V might be my next car.

CTSV_Rob

Could be a fun car if they build it correctly.

I think the only thing I don't like about the Wagon is that it weighs 4400lbs. But the new BMW 550i weighs 4440lbs!!!!!!!!!!!! So it's not that bad compared to it's competition.

I think the RS6 wagon (not available here I know) weighs almost 5000 lbs?
