Hey! That's my car! I met with Simon from RHO and figured out the final details. I'm really happy with the bracket

Here's a picture from the top.

Thanks Joey. I'm ordering mine since, as you know, I've already been ticketed while parked in a public parking lot.

I hate drilling holes in any car just to mount the plate! However that looks horrible in my humble opinion! I would rather just drill the holes or accept the ticket. Mine was already drilled so I had no choice, but I think I would rig something up on the lower grill before I would go the tow hook route..... sorry just my opinion....you know what they say about opinions tho....

I just orders one too. I was going to get the hide-a-plate but wasn't keen on the thought of it scraping or wind pulling at it.

Geez, I would think that since I supplied them with tow hook measurements and pics that they would let me know when it was available. Oh Well.. Thanks for the info.

That's what I got it for.

Rho-Plate was great. They kept me informed via email every step of the way during production and let me know as soon as it became available. Great customer service.

Yeah, I like the higher mount position which not only looks better IMHO, but also doesn't block as much air from going into the heat exchanger.

Great idea and looks ok to me, but I WILL NEVER EVER mount a front plate on my V! NEVER!

I also just cannot bring myself to mount the front plate. Went thru a registration check roadblock just this morning. I watched the sheriff glance for the plate, then my registration. Waved me thru.

Have been lucky so far in my two years of V ownership.

Cheap insurance to keep it in the trunk and tell the LEO that you haven't had a chance to mount it yet.

What is wrong with the normal front plate location? It still looks awful whether center mounted or off to the side.

I told my dealer not to mount the front plate at all since I feel it detracts from the look of the car.

Again, it's perfect for a temporary hard mount. It mounts to the tow hook location. In MA, I haven't run a front plate on either of my Vs for 7 years. BUT, they are coming down harder on inspection stations for giving a pass with no front plate.

This is perfect for the quick install, sticker, quick uninstall...

I'm sure you guys have seen this before, so what's the problem with it? too expensive? can't actually get it?

To me, if I had a V (or any other car that defies the front plate) and if I lived in a two plate state I would try and get something like the motorized front license plate pictured in that video

This is great for going to Car shows like Ocean City, MD where the LEOs just wait to tag cars with no front plates. And having the tag in your trunk or on your dash will not save you from a citation. The problem I have with my motorized plate is that it often scraps and I fear for the time where a bump or imperfect road might rip it off.

Mine also arrived today. I'm very happy with the fit/finish. Money well spent IMO.

The way I look at it is that it might not be the most appealing look, it's better than a ticket or getting pulled over after a beer on the way home because you have no tag.

exactly.. i have a new kit in the box.. the first one's motor died on me, so i warrantied it, and didn't even bother installing it.

other way around for me.. wear it at home, take it off on the road.

so scraping is the issue, eh? figures...
i wonder if there's a way to get it to pop out from a modded gap in the lower grille (i guess there's probably no room there)

Just mounted mine..........It's a well made product, just not sure I'm liking the location. Oh well, better than drilling holes through the bumper.

Any thoughts on how this compares to the similar product sold by D3? Theirs is about twice the price, but it does have the tow hook mount included.

I've got a '12 wagon on order, and have bought one of the slide from underneath the wagon mounts, but prefer this option as it eliminates the concern of scraping.

Yes, I know I am bumping up an old post but I feel it has the best chance of being responded to as it is about this product.
I have not been able to find any other similar products to this option and I also think it would have been a decent factory option for mounting.

I have a 2008 STS non V AWD V8 ... I want to have my front plate mounted using the tow hook location, I contacted RHO regarding this and they said that the CTS-V version will not work on the STS and they will not make one and that was basically the end of story. They did not seem very willing to even consider it. No details were given as to why it wont work (ex: shaft too long/short, incorrect threads on the shaft, diameter to large... etc).

So my request is to have someone who has it if they could take some measurements and some good quality pics of the bracket and shaft so I can determine for myself if it would actually fit or not. Having the plate mounted in this fashion seems like a much better idea compared to drilling 2-4 holes in the bumper to add a bracket that gets in the way and looks bad. I live in Minnesota and 2 plates are required and people do get ticketed for the lack of front plate. So rather than using some zip ties to attach it to the bumper I would much rather use this.

Thanks.

I do know the shaft is 5" (5 3/4" including the threads); I just measured it for you. The rest is just a piece of metal that bolts to it.

It looks similar to this, just a different shaft. The CTS-V shaft is the same size throughout. http://www.rhoplate.com/images/Rhoplate_600.jpg

Thanks, I measured from the start of the threads to the outside edge of the bumper and its about 4 1/4" to 4 1/2"
The diameter of the entry hole is about an inch or so, as you can see in this photo looking into the bumper.

So I am thinking that its very likely that this would fit the bumper just fine....(please ignore the fresh guts on the bumper...)

However I have no idea if the threads will match up or not. I can make the assumption that there is some type of 'standard' size for front bumper tow hooks to be attached.
Anyone have thoughts on this?
