: The new "Like" feature..

If you like it, "like" this post. :)

I hate to speak out. I noticed this feature, and can't help but think it's a little sophomoric. It's a little too "facebook" for my liking. Do not like.

I never use it.

It's so easy, a caveman could do it!

Only if there's a dislike button. Facebook lacks it.

I'm tempted to hit "like" on everything I read just to confuse people.

It's a handy way to say that the post is something you agree with/support without having to use the keyboard but on the other hand, it is such a blatant mimic of facebook that I tend to stay away from it! Im on the fence with this. :D

A dislike button would be revolutionary.

Every time you hit that button the person who's post it is gets a notification that you "like" that post.

JimmyH

a dislike button would be akin to the rep system, where people would neg' bomb someone who made a stupid post. I am not surprised Sal left that one off.

That one would have gotten worn out from overuse. :sneaky:

i think it only fair to have a dislike button also

JimmyH

another thing I don't "like" about this feature. apparently, when someone "likes" one of your posts, it shows up as a notification. So now when I log in, it looks like I have a bunch of pm's when all I have is a bunch of likes.

Only if there's a dislike button. Facebook lacks it.

from what I have heard friendfeed (who was bought by facebook after facebook basically copied their like feature and real time features, among other features) didn't put a dislike button on posts because basically nothing positive can come from a dislike button

We believe that a dislike button would be a negative addition to facebook. It would be an outlet for haters and trolls, and it would discourage people from speaking their minds due to fear of rejection from peers. Nothing positive can come from a dislike button.

the only time that I feel like i want a dislike button is when a friend posts something bad that happened to them...

in these instances i'm actually glad that facebook doesn't have a dislike button because it forces me to actually write something and communicate with my friend who's not doing so great at the moment ... instead of mechanically clicking a button and then moving on

the need for those fleeting dislikes doesn't outweigh the negative impacts that a dislike button would bring along with it

for a current news article on the subject, see Read Write Web's recent article (http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/no_haters_allowed_why_a_dislike_button_is_not_comi ng_to_facebook.php)
(lots of good discussion in their comments)

The first, and last, time I "liked" your post. Because your dislike count would be unparalleled...

Is there a way we could like somebody else's like? (eg post #11)

I don't believe so...

Can it be added to the user settings so we can opt to not receive the utterly pointless notifications?

Or can this superawesome vBulletin 4.1.x have an option to acknowledge the notifications without having to click on each one individually to take the "likee" back to the same thread again and again?

I like that you can "like" someones post without having to post that you agree, or enjoy the fact that it was funny, or that they took the time to answer. Do likes count as posts?

Stingroo
10-03-11, 09:33 AM
No, Likes don't count as posts.
