: Looking for advice on best way to launch car on drag strip vs. on street.

On stock tires for now, wondering if there is a specific RPM people are loking for when launching on the track, vs. on the street. I have the street part mostly figured out, but know that on a well prepared track the traction will be better and should help hold more power as you pull away from the starting line.

This is with a approx 620 WHp car. I know that soft compound tires are the fix, but waiting on M/T to come out with the 19" in mid May, so for now thought I would make a few passes on the stock tires to get the hang of the car and see what it mph's. Not really looking for a Max effort Low ET with this car, but want to get close to what others have achieved.

Thanks for any advice from anybody with experience with similar power levels.

25 PSI, launch at idle, TC off, roll out so the tires are just grabbing. Do not get overzealous with the right pedal. A little squeal is fine but you need to maintain a calm foot and come out easy to go fast.

Similar to yours but only a 9.5"lower and no spacer, all stock exhaust. Add ported blower and heads, and small cam and 1.85 rockers, and tune up by Jesse. Very nice package, idles, drives, and looks like. stock, but runs very well when you hit the throttle.

Have you tried it yet with all the controls on? You might be surpised how well this works.

Yes, it does work well, but not very fast. My best quarter mile pass with the controls on and street tires was .43 seconds slower than a traction control off run on drag radials.

So controls "on" with street tires vs controls "off" with drag radials means traction control isn't as fast? Hmmm. Track prep makes all the difference. I sucked at right pedal control, went 13 something @ 113. Totally bummed( at myself). Turned on TC went 11.93 @ 116. Just mashed it to the floor. Lol

I pulled a 1.497 60 with stability control off and went off idle. You could also go off around 1,000 to 1,500 and see what your car likes.

Surprised a man of your calibre is asking this.

The drag radial run was no drama, no spin what so ever, and they are pretty close to the street tires in weight/diameter. If I were to run the drag radials with traction control on I'd bet it'd be the same as traction control off. More importantly, it shows how much can be gained with traction Vs. traction control.

Under certain conditions, the MT 305/35/18s will spin. I blew them off before.

Just looking for some info for a starting point. I was hoping to be able to hit the track and get a day of practice in the v before my regular racing schedule starts. The Q-8 / pro mod car is nearly ready and I hope to get a few Q-8 cars together and rent a track for a day of testing in the next few weeks, if it ever stops raining here in Ohio.

Thanks to all for the good info and experiences with your v's. There is a lot of info in the replies so far. I will post my results in another week if the tracks around here open this week.

Yes and no. A better way to look at it is that traction control doesn't give traction, it just limits power. It slows you down, a lot. When I launch correctly (and it's hard to do consistently), I can run quicker on street tires with traction control off then with it on, by at least .1 sec.
