There is only one thats ever been built and completed and about 2-3 other projects that we havent heard from or seen in months or even years now... its almost impossible and what you end up is something heavy and slow...

Go buy a cheap GTO and get on with the upgrades... with the cat its simply not possible past the mechanical stand point..

There are actually two V8 Cats. The first is the incomparable Catera V by John Lingenfelter.

The other I found for sale on Ebay with no builder info. The pix are attached below.

Hi Ivan. Are you saying my Catera is slow?-LOL- I do agree if starting from scratch I would build up or just buy a GTO like a friend of mine just did. Not an option when my car was built. I did install a GTO diff over the winter (again not easy)-Catera V

Hello all. This is my first post on this forum and I hope to make countless more. I know this has been talked about to no end but are there any more of the factory parts floating around for this conversion.

The reason I ask is I recently spun my 98 Z28 with LS1 and T56 into a pole and have decided to do a drivetrain swap into a Catera. Picked up a 98 Catera with blown engine for $800 and now I am parts hunting to get started.

My plan is to fabricate my own motor and trans mounts. Install the engine using a GTO oil pan. Install a larger core between the factory radiator tanks to retain the stock fan mounting. Source the clutch pedal, master cylinder, and underdash trim from the UK. Cut the floor opening out of the Camaro and weld into the Catera. Also convert to rack and pinion to open my options for the manifolds/headers.

Mechaninally it sounds easy and I know the devil is in the details and for this project the details will be in the wiring.

I plan to put lots of miles on this car as the Camaro was my DD and saw 40k a year and got 30mpg. My only real concerns are working AC, cruise control, and ABS. Not concened with traction control as it was not an option on the Z28, which is probably why it committed suicide. Hoping to sell Z28 upgrades to pay for swap. Any info on these parts or suggested parts to pick up would be appreciated.

Oh almost forgot, is there an upgrade or option for the windshield wiper motor that get it out of the way so the motor can be set back more or does that push the trans back too far for the shifter spud to exit the factory shifter location. Thanks in advance.

No not saying the Catera is slow, its fine in stock form but the upgrade is difficult past the mechanical point to complete a vehicle that functions as a normal car and the fact that such projects are non existent its hard to get guidance.

On the other hand the GTO is a sweet starting point and is just as charming as the catera.

Trust me I will never get rid of my CAT... its gonna stay in my family for as long as it can. However it might be joined by a GTO in the near future.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't mean heavy and slow but for the most part its a near 4000lb car that starts off with a V6, you add a V8 and im sure weight climbs up above 4000lbs... Most V8s installed will put out 350-400hp which is a good number but comparing to others in the class, and the Catera might be at a disadvantage.
