: Need some help diagnosing this noise...

The car is a '77 Coupe deville and at any speed over ~30mph I get a high-pitched squealing from the driver's side. It's hard to say if it's the brakes squeaking or possibly the wheel bearings wearing out.

The noise is constant unless I'm on the brakes (goes silent) or turning (also silent). No vibration in the wheel at all either.

Any thoughts?? I don't want to spend the money to fix one thing if it's something else...

Take the wheel off and check the brakes. You can check the bearing at the same time for excessive play. I'd guess brakes.

+1 on brakes. If the pads aren't down to the squeeler, it is just the pad(s) vibrating in the caliper body. Take the caliper off, remove the pads, bend the little tabs down more so the pads are tight, and use anti-squeal on the back of the pads before you put everything back together.

sounds like a brake squeaker to me, time for new pads.
