: How much engine movement is too much? (Stock motor mounts)

Hey all.

I recently had a fairly aggressive cam installed in my 05V. The motor mounts are "stock" cadillac mounts with about 25k miles on them.

I think that my new lopey cam is really starting shake the engine around, even at idle. The problem is even worse when I rev the engine.

I'm assuming that the stock motor mounts are shot and I'm already ordering the Creative Steel "black" motor mounts with heat shields.

Just wondering how much shake is too much? My oil cap probably travels .75 inches from top to bottom even while just idling sometimes...:hmm:

And, for note, when I rev the engine it goes bonkers and bounces all over the place...

Just bought the Creative Steel Ultra motor mounts (the black ones, I think).

Can anyone confirm that I've been reading in some threads that my Kooks 1-3/4" longtube headers need to be removed before I can replace the motor mounts?

yea headers will need to be removed... HUGE PIA i should of taken care of when i was installing the headers :[

Headers coated or wrapped? take the proper heat precautions for the starter, alternator wire, brake lines which are routed under the driver side primary..

Yeah, I wish I had done this last year when I had the headers installed at first. So headers on both sides need to come out?

My headers are not wrapped or coated. Should I wrap them? If not, what heat precautions are recommended for the peripheral components?

Also, if I remove my headers...will I need to replace the gaskets again?

:bonkers:

Just bumping this hoping some others will chime in with how much their engine shakes and vibrates while idling...I'll be putting the V in the air later this week to visually inspect the existing motor mounts. I'm starting to wonder if my shakes and vibrations are more normal for an engine with a lumpy cam in it after all...

More Pros then cons for me.

- i heat shielded the alt wire..
-brakelines..
-electronics on the shock towers faceing the headers..
-cool socks on the plugwires..
-zip tied everything as far out of the way as possible esp that thick wire loom on the pass side...
-starter blanket-waiting to go on because of the recent starter failure threads..

i dont want to regret getting headers better safe then sorry your whips on fire lol

i wrapped my headers because of these threadz..
