: 285/45 vs 305/40

what is your opinion? I am looking at a second set of rims and tires for my Escalade because mine came with brand new snow tires (285/45/22) and i don't want to pull the tires off for the spring/summer/fall then reinstall the snow's. Think that might take a toll on the chrome

so i found a dealership that has stock rims and tires but they are the 305/40 that are new, i noticed the height is a little lower and will put off the odometer which they said they will calibrate it for me. who want's to add more km/miles to their suv then you are doing right?

my question is, does anyone have this size on their suv? Do you like them? is there a different look?

Thanks!

The overall diameter difference is 32.09 for the stock 285/45/22 vs 31.60 for the 305/40/22, at 60 mph the speedo would read 60.9 a 1.558 speedo error or 1.53 difference from stock, not really enough to worry about making a difference

Thanks!

I talked the guy down to a better price of $2375 plus tax for full package, if anyone in the Durham/GTA area is interested maybe getting more than one set at a time might even help more.

305/40 looks wider. it's a wider tire

285/45 looks taller. It's a taller tire

not really as much of a riding difference as you would think, if any at all. I've had a set of both tires, I'm running 305/40/22 now. Really comes down to what looks better to at this point.

yes, slightly. i have the 305s,i like the lower sidewall look.
Some say thay have a problem with the tire rubbing when turned full lock but i dont have it with mine.
when time to replace the tires you will have more choices with the 285s.a lot of tire models come as a
285/45/22 but not a 305/40/22. you got a good price,go for it.

Do not do this to your truck, you will be disappointed. The wider tires pull you all over the road in the ruts from heavy vehicles... And the biggest con is that the tires stick out 1.5 -2 inches past the mud flaps. I ran mine for a few months after noticing about 40 new rock chips,. It also takes the ride with the smaller sidewall and turns it to crap. Yesterday I put stock rubber on it yesterday, and put the tires in the paper. They are junk.

I thought I was the only one suffering from being pulled all over the damn road from the grooves in the pavement. Where are you from? In Vancouver the roads are hell, and it makes driving a pain.

Glad I went with the 285/45. I don't like the look of too low of a profile tire on my suv, ok on my vette, but not a truck. the tire well looks too empty IMO.

(Nice to see other Canadian's on here, I'm east of Toronto).

Not a huge difference between the two. The 305's are only a little shorter and a little wider.

Anyone have pictures of the tires 285/45 vs 305/40 on the Escalade?

I'm not sure if pictures were posted you'd even be able to notice the difference. I'm running 305/40/22 and don't have HUNTING problems. And when you compare you have to compare the same tire BRAND. Different companies use different specs.. which makes some 40 series tires taller than others (some use more thread).

are you running these tires on a 07+ newer escalade? Are you running th 305's tires with a stock ride height?

Hunting problems....are you referring to the transmission hunting for the correct gear with the larger diameter tires?

I changed out the stock 285/45 for the 305/40's keeping the same brand and model tire that came on my Ext. I notice very little difference in ride quality. But I much better like the look of the wider 40 series tire over the 45 series.

I'm running 305/40/22 aftermarket rims.. everything else is pretty much stock far as suspension goes. When I was referring to HUNTING, I was talking about the vehicle following grooves in the road. Nothing to do with the transmission, it was a steering reference.

I know I'm posting in the 07+ forums, but I have an 06. That's what I'm basing my experience on.
