: Best Cai Setup...imho

K, I've seen several threads pop up about cai. I've tried a ton of them and I've concluded in my opinion the best setup for high hp V's is Jesse's /Wait4me cai coupled with my special green filter setup & my brake duct mod ( I do say my brake duct mod because I was the first one to pull that sucker out :bighead: )...You all know what Jesse's full cai looks like but this is my green filter setup...

My green filter w/ afe sock...

Here is how far it goes down with Jesse's cai...

Whats nice is the filter is slim enough so it doesn't get scrunched on the top portion of the intake 'canal'. This filter allows for flow all the way around from top to bottom. And with the brake duct pulled it allows for full air flow to surround the filter. With the AFE filter sock it'll keep the filter from getting too much junk in it and from water drops from rain. I've rain it through high pressure car washes etc and the only thing that gets a little wet is the bottom portion which is solid rubber. Anyhow it would be hella hard to hydrolock the motor with this type of filter because it would have to be nearly submerged fully for that to happen and by than you'd have to be in 2 feet of water. Making 654rwhp on 11.5psi I believe this helped with flowing all that air into my V. DO NOT THROW THIS SETUP ON YOUR CAR WITHOUT A TUNE.

Here is the purchasing info...

It took me a while to figure out the correct sizing but here is the link to get the " AFE weather sock part # is 28-10021 "

http://afepower.com/shop/details_new.php?partno=28-10021&filter&menu=gas&searchtype=word&keyword=28-10021&brandID=50

( comes in yellow,black,red,blue )

And here is the filter /green filter. Much better quality than K&N, even Jesse was surprised by the steel mesh strength.

I will have an update later. I've got a good one I'm testing too. Some very nice features but will note those with the actual data tonight.

I tried the filter combination with the new era but it didnt work as well because the new era intake is longer and made the filter drop another couple inches. Which for me was a little too low in terms of catching flying debris. Not too mention because Jesse's/W4me's cai is 3 individual peices it lets you position it exactly in a position where the filter makes as little body contact/air blockage as possible.

It's that a filter in your fender, or are you happy to see me?

So what were the before and after numbers? What did the New Era Make? Can you try that filter on the New Era or another Brand X CAI? I like that you are wearing protection.

What are your mods?

That filter w/ the new era will drop the filter to the point where you wont see the top of it through the air duct. If you dont push it further on the new era pipe the green filter will even tap on the plastic undercover.

Can you post mods and dyno data for the different setups if you have it? Interested in seeing where the gains were noticed.

Here are pics of the intake at the top of the pipe. Notice how its not squashed up against the walls....

I just ordered 10 of these green filter types.. If anyone wants them, they should be $65 each with free shipping to your door. I havent ordered the socks yet, but ill have that price for them when i get a call back. They did work better than the kn ones.

Glad I could contribute to the knowledge bowl  Hey Jesse, what kind of results did you get when you did more testing with the green filter ? I figured you would play with the setup a little more after my last dyno runs there. I would really be suprised if there were other v owners out there making that much power at such a low boost level on the lsa block...maybe next year I'll swing back out there for some more injector =)
