I had my guy in NJ bidding on this for me at the insurance auction......it sold for$28,500. Now its for sale for $34,900.....I priced out $7100 in just fees and parts.....does this seem like way too much for a salvage title car?

What are you thoughts.

What would you think a car like this with a salvage title repaired would be worth or sell for?

Way to much because you can get a nice perfect one with a few more miles for around 40k with a clean title at the auctions that has not been wrecked...

I know....that is what I said. I have seen two 09 V's, one on this board for 43K and another red one in Iowa on Ebay for $43,900...with 20K miles and a clean title....with a warranty and all the toppings.

I told the guy bidding for me that I didn't want to go any higher than 21K for the smashed V. I would have had $29K into when done.....to me I thought that was a good deal.

I know that the pearl white 2010 out in NY went for $20K at the salvage auction and is now up for sale for $25K.

There was a 2011 Coupe with 6K miles went for $22,300 recently at an insurance auction.

I guess I will keep looking....

Personally, I would be afraid of a salvage title vehicle for resale reasons. I, again personally, would never buy a car with a salvage title even if was free.

for resale reasons I agree....there are many reasons that salvage and resale will be a PITA.

I want to find one as a daily driver communtor since I can do the repairs and get it for less.

I have a Gen 1 CTS-V now that has 135K miles on it. I hate to buy another 45-50K car and put 35K miles on it a year.....I could drive a salvage repaired V for 5 years and who cars what its worth at 175K miles.

That was my thinking, but after seeing that this car went for 28,500 and is now for sale for 34,900.....I'm starting to wonder is maybe a low mileage CTS-V is more attractive and less work.

FWIW & IMHO, I also would never get involved with a salvage title. I try and avoid "damaged goods" whenever possible.

I have to agree. I wouldn't touch that thing.

bad area to be crunched i had have a few repairables before but would stray away from a side hit like that

i had a salvage title 01 z06, good lord you know how bad vette guys are to begin with but they acted like it was the plague, i had to give that shit away + needed to sell due to hard times back then so that didnt help!

I would stay away at that price. I would say a rebuilt one with the title branding is currently worth about $32k tops repaired. The warranty will be voided as GM is very proactive in doing title branding scans. You could purchase an aftermarket warranty, but they would question the first time you go to make a claim why the factory warranty is voided and will probably deny your claims too.

No bank will finance a branded title car, so the purchase will have to have cash. In times likes these, that much cash is hard to find for a with a salvage title history.

there are banks that will loan on a salvage title car. Most of the institutions that I have found said they would loan up to 50% of the Blue Book value. There is always the scenario of a personal loan as well.

But in the end I agree with you......salvage title cars to be sold need to be priced way below an unblemished car to be attractive to the buyer......this car when finished would have at least $42K into.....which is entirely too much.

Hi, you have any idea how I can find out if that pearl white 10 cts-v is still available in NY? Or no of any others that are available! Thanks!!

I have purchased many salvaged cars over the years. I have a friend in the business of buying and repairing these. I have had a 1994 Z28 that was a recovered theft, a 2002 Z28 that was a fresh water flood and I now have a 1993 Ruby Red Corvette that was totaled due to "non repairable electric problems". It was simply a bad ground that no one else could find. I have put about 1000 miles on it in 2 months and no issues. If you know what you are looking for, and not worried about resale, you often get good deal. For example, I paid 9k for my 02 Z28 in November of 03 with 18k miles. I sold it in 2009 for 9k. Now, I put a good bit into it like wheels, SS hood, new sound system, GMMG exhaust that I found in a junkyard and paid 100 bucks for (800 dollar exhaust) but never touched the motor or the paint (other than painting the SS hood). I purchased the 1993 Corvette for 6500. For a clean titled 1993 in the same condition, I would have probably spent 12k. Here are a couple pics of each.
