V-day 5 will be Friday June 24th at Summit point (on the Summit track) in West Virginia. for those who havent been to a previous Vday this is the countrys largest V dominant track day.at the first 4 Vday's we have had an average of 40 V's on the track and 10-20 more that show up to hang out. cost is $250.00, that gets you aproximately 2 hours of track time with an experienced in car instructor, class room time to hone your skills and a catered lunch. this year Cadillac will be involved supporting their new race team, more details on that soon. please call 703-647-8670 or email lbutler@lindsaycadillac.com with any questions or to register.

awesome, i appreciate you guys taking the time to coordinate the event for all of us driving enthusiasts. however, 2 hrs doesn't seem like that much track time for 40 cars. since i've taken already taken a BSR driving course there, would i be able to skip the classroom portions and get more track time? also the track isn't that long...i foresee congestion issues if there are more than 5-6 cars on the track at one time.

40 is the average # of V's. there is usually another 10-15 vettes, porsche, etc. the 25-30 instructors are also rewarded with track time for donating their time. so the short answer is no. the day is timed down to the minute to get everyone as much time as possible.

the track is 2 miles long and easily supports 20-25 cars per session. this is our 5th event, we have some good people in place to maximize safety and fun for all experience levels

Huh? I've been on VIR Grand course with 40+ cars and little congestion. A 2+ mile track comfortably takes 20 cars a session. And 2 hours is more than most...

Yeah... this setup at Summit sounds pretty reasonable. Mosport's Grand Prix Track is just about 2.5 mi. long and we've got 51 cars registered for a lapping day in May. There will be 2 run groups with 25 minute sessions. The schedule for the day goes like this:

9:00 - 9:30 am Green Group drivers yellow flag run.
9:30 - 10:00 am Blue Group drivers yellow flag run.
No passing during first outing. It's good to familiarize yourself with the track idiosyncracies.

10:00 - 10:30 am Green Group
10:30 - 11:00 am Blue Group
11:00 - 11:30 am Green Group
11:30 - 12:00 pm Blue Group
12:00 pm to 1:00 p.m. LUNCH (lunch will be provided)
1:00 - 1:30 pm Green Group
1:30 - 2:00 pm Blue Group
2:00 - 2:30 pm Green Group
2:30 - 3:00 pm Blue Group

and then...
OPEN LAPPING UNTIL 5 P.M.

Each group gets 5 separate 25 minute sessions between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, including the opening session which is run under a yellow flag. After 3:00 pm and up until 5:00 pm, the track is totally open with no specific groups coming on or going off. I've lapped a few times with this group and this is actually when the track is the least congested, since many participants have gone home or have simply had enough and are finished for the day (or don't want to press their luck!).
The challenge is to pace yourself throughout the day in order to take advantage of the relatively open track later in the afternoon, without tiring yourself out!

Best regards,

Elie

i guess it also depends on the skill level of your fellow drivers. when i took the class there was a lot of bunching up even with 10 second gaps between cars. it really spoiled the fun since we were only allowed to pass on the main straight and the short straight between turns 9 and 10.

if a schedule can be made available (similar to what garfin posted) that would be great.

A good starter will take care to observe and take note of which drivers are faster, slower and in between, with the goal being not to send out a slower driver in front of a faster one, as this can cause bunching. After a couple of sessions, the starter should have it figured out and ideally should not send a driver out until after a faster car goes by, so that the slower car is following a faster one.

OK, you got to send me one of those "good starters". I like the idea you state, just have never seen it used. What we find is that the guys who are faster end up trying to line up first in the following session, so they will get a few open laps before they catch up to the train.

if six 20 minute sessions are planned, most are a bit blinded by what 2 hrs on a road course will do to your tires/brakes/gas/wallet without incident.

about 30 signed up so far with around 20 being V's. still spots and time to get registered. just got word that while the V coupe race car will still be there it may not be ready to give rides (which is kind of a bummer....) oh well, I will find something for Andy Pilgrim to drive

Speaking of waiting until the last minute, my car is going into my local dealer on Tuesday for a couple of items. But, I may need a new wheel bearing. Not sure but I'm getting some vibration at speed(with old PS2s and new Hankooks) and a slight grinding when turning the wheel at 2/3 lock. At least it seems I do. It is very intermittent.

Anyway, I was hoping to have new track wheels and slicks. The slicks may not show up in time and I still need to drop about $500 for track pads.

I may be just showing up with a stock setup and running. I just hate toasting the outer front edges of my tires...

All the track spots are spoken for! please come out and enjoy the day. looks like good weather. if you are coming from out of town, most of the guys stay at this Hampton Inn the night before...540-678-4000. tell them you would like the Summit Point rate to get a discount
