Cadillacforums.com has more than doubled in members since March am I correct? Up from around 850 to 1,800? This is awesome! :cool:

Yeah, sorta like Rogaine and hair growth - this forum has certainly grown quite quickly. I do think we'll pass the 3000 mark by the end of the year. I think more people tend to visit forums when the weather ISN'T nice - as opposed to when it is...

Thats very common with any message board, most people prefer to lurk, this is basically the only site i ever post on, but it doesnt mean I dont lurk around ALOT of others

Otherwise - yes, it is very common for 90% of the users to lurk and NOT post. In fact, I don't think it's any other way on any other forum.

Oh and I think we're getting between 10 and 20 new signups per day.. Eventually, percentages will come into play and we're going to have a lot of action here... It's inevitable...

That always means that the board has become a very welcome repository of knowledge, and the lurkers can just check it out and read.

BTW, did you notice we set a new "Most Users Ever Online" of 64 yesterday? About 12 of the users were search engine spiders - that's a good thing. We have been getting indexed by the major search engines quite a bit lately, which can only add to our popularity and growth. So it would be foolish to think everyone without a post is lurking. Still, I would be surprised if less than 20% of people who register don't visit a reasonable amount. I don't have experiance with VBulletin, so I don't know if there would be any way (or reason you would want) to check.

But learning a lot. I'm a newbie too. But plan on being around a while.

That's scary.. We're going to need better hosting soon. Honestly, I'm really very surprised we haven't run into a problem yet...

Well, we just had 62 users currently online. That's less than our record of 97, *but* now that the cookie timeout has been cut down to 15 minutes (it was 30 minutes when we hit 97) I think that we can consider this our busiest yet.

I am also a new member having joined several weeks ago. I have enjoyed this site very much. When I bought the STS,..I knew I needed a home for info and talk. I would like to see members get together in areas. I know a bunch went to Englishtown NJ recently,.a little too far to drive from SC. But a Charlotte NC or an Atlanta GA is close enough to get me to drive to it. A list of our members by state would help trying to get a little informal meet and greet to happen. I love the site and check it daily since joining,..and I ll try to post more instead of lurking. :bouncy:

Hi CarolinaSTS. :) Yes, we'll be getting localized meetings here shortly. We've already started a little bit and this will continue as time goes on. Once we sorta find a 'representative' for each area, it'll be really easy. :)

Well,..Sal,..me being a certified redneck from the south who recently got "cultured by buying an STS,.I would be glad to help in some manner when it comes to the southern region. Let me know,..I am VP of Southern Scouts which is a 7 state club devoted to old International Harvesters picks-ups and suv's. I look forward to a mid south meet of caddy owners,..Ill be there. :D

Maybe we should put some kind of a cap on the membership amount. Seriously. Won't oversaturation hurt us? Isn't that why GM forums died? Too many people were posting bullshit posts?

P.S. I know nothing about hosting or moderating forums, so I could easily be wrong, but this is just mine, yes, uneducated, but still, a concern.

When I looked through the membership list, I saw a very high percentage of people who joined but left a long time ago. Some never even posted.

A lot of them are like me, considering a purchase, but maybe they decided to buy something else instead, so they never came back. The odds are that even since December 30th, a couple may have even died. If there's a way to purge the list, that might be a good idea.

It's probably hard to put a cap on membership, since you never know how many are going to hit the server at the same time. That's the number to watch.

Growing pains are common, and we're about to experience more as winter is upon us. That's when people are stuck at home more and get really active on the web.

The moderators have to keep the BS at a minimum, and keep the topics fresh.

I have to say I have felt very welcome here. I've posted a fair amount (mostly welcomes). I have found that the answers I have recieved to my questions have been accurate. It is nice to be able to cruise around the forum picking up useful tidbits of information here and there. I am not a DIY'er (mechanically) but I do love to shine my caddy! Other forums have a rule. If a member doesn't post for a fixed period of time, he is banned. I know that this is somewhat hijacking a thread, but I suggest (and I know I am in the wrong section to do that) that we make a rule for anyone not posting for one year (more then fair interval) to be removed from the board.

I guess that kinda makes sense cause there are quite a few people who sign up post thier question and then leave.
