: A West Coast V-day, ideas,interest?

Since some of us unfortunate ones who don't have the ability to make it all the way out to the east-coast, why don't we have a west coast one set-up maybe this summer or the next? I really don't know how to start setting this up but it would be great to work with some people and set something up on the west coast so more V owners out here can get on the track more and meet fellow owners.

Any ideas on tracks to set this up at? Would there be any interest if we did try to set one up?:bouncy:

I would be real interested in a West Coast V-Day. Probably have wait until a few more people show interest before a venue can be selected, both for logistical reasons and size of facility. It seems like someone tried to put one on at Laguna Seca last year. Not sure if it even happened, between the 700 mile road trip, $300-$400 a day registration fee and other responsibilities.....I didn't look in to it very deep.

I'm sure the "Where-When-How Much" will play a big part in attendance. At this point I would be interested in hearing more.

I'd drive from Florida for a West Coast V-day (or V-weekend?) at Laguna Seca if that was possible.... probably not this summer though, it would have to be the following (2012).

I also think it might be a little late for this year but I was thinking we start it off at a smaller track that is near the most dense area of Vs. My first thought was a small track out here called high plains raceway in Volorado this is where I met Unsafe and Tweeter and I believe one other V owner stopped by also. It is a great new track and a lot of fun. Last I remember I paid 190 to run with a group of car guys n we had the whole day to track our cars. The problem is it is literally in the middle of no where but I believe they will let u stay the night at the track so we can have like a 2-day thing, track the Bs meet fellow owners maybe a BBQ or something. If we can make it successful with a smaller venue maybe later on we can get laguna seca or buttonwillows etc to track the Vs at. We can keep it open for any car guy the more the Merrier,

What are thoughts with an approach like this? I was thinking maybe mid June or July I just don't want to set up a day n not many can make it because of other duties, input?

Here are some options;

I recommend June, as July-Oct are too hot everywhere except Laguna Seca.

Another Option in Palm Dessert:

CHUCKWALLA VALLEY RACEWAY - JUNE 4, 5

By popular demand, Speed Ventures has scheduled an event at the new Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in Desert Center, CA (east of Palm Springs). Since it's likely to be your first time running this track, we hope you'll consider this a 2-day event. Drivers competing in either the Corvette Challenge, S2K Challenge or Miata Challenge on Sunday will want to learn the track Saturday or face a strong disadvantage. We'll be running 4 x 25 minute sessions for 3 run groups only (Black, Green, Red) and finishing up by 1:00pm or so to beat the heat. On Saturday, after finishing up early, we hope to arrange a poolside party at one of the local casinos. The introductory price for this event is $180 and we expect these spots to go quickly. Challenge competitors or anyone itching to add this track to their resumé should sign up now. Stay tuned for more details on the Saturday pool party.

Registration is now open:http://www.speedventures.com/events/eventdetail.aspx?id=341

Of course, this is also a great option;

MAZDA Raceway Laguna Seca
SATURDAY features the Corvette Challenge, S2K Challenge, Miata Challenge

Dates Friday, June 24, 2011
Saturday, June 25, 2011
Sunday, June 26, 2011

The 24th is actually my birthday haha and I can not think of any other better way of spending than doing this that looks like a lot of fun!!

So we are having these dates scattered all over right now I would like to narrow it down to closer dates and fewer tracks to talk about, so far on the list we have

ButtonWillow-
Thunderhill-
Laguna Seca-
Palm Dessert-
Portland-
Seattle-
Sears Point-
Miller-

In either
May-
June-
July-
Maybe August?

So lets just take some votes and see from there what the most interest would be in when and where? What I am thinking is just make it a fun open car enthusiast day, everyone bring out their pride and joys and we can just meet up, track our cars and bs about cars! We can try getting some sponsors for the event and various ways to try bringing costs down.

This would probably have to get ready for the 2012 summer but good to be looking into it now! :bouncy: so vote and throw more ideas and input in!

My votes

I would need at least a couple months notice being as how taking leave works at my job. Considering the WA interest, Miller might be good? Utah isn't super far from NoCal guys either.

My vote is for Miller Motorsports Park. I have always wanted to make the trip to Toelle, UT and run at this awesomely huge track. I already am planning a track day at Pueblo on May 14-15 (I believe Unsafe might be there as well), and the other track day date I have in mind for this summer is August 20-21 @ HPR, but sometime later in the summer (very late summer) would work best for me.

Dowlatij,

Keep in mind that you can't please everybody, but if you really want to get this done you have to keep the voting open for a few weeks or a month, and then just make the decision based on the most votes and stick with it. If you can give people 3-4 months of advance notice, you will have the best chance to get people there and to stay committed. This is how I did it when i set up the two V meets that were in Colorado in 2006 and 2007.

The only problem with having a Track Day meet is that someone is going to have to put a deposit down to use the track, and that will be a significant amount of money, which means that you would have to get some cash upfront from the potential attendees, which will be really hard. Don't get me wrong, I am absolutely all for a Track Day meet, but it will be a bit of a challenge.

Or if we plan far enough ahead we could fill all spots on an existing HPDE, for instance Hooked On Driving is at Miller Sports Park Saturday July 23rd and Sunday July 24th. Below is info from their website:

HOD drivers are taking on the Alan Wilson designed, highly acclaimed, full 4.5 mile, 24 turn full road course at Miller Motorsports Park. Two full days of track time, full use of the Member's Clubhouse for the weekend, and optional garage rental will be offered (limited garages). This is not an event for the first timer to the track, but we believe that we have the winning format to serve our customers' interests in a fair and safe way. Please note on your registration whether you have run Miller before. Also - 10" car numbers will be required.

They also have a Saturday night BBQ....

Check out their website HERE. (http://www.hookedondriving.com/hooked-on-driving-events)

Miller actually sounds like a great option it is very central for a lot of us.

Tweeter and Unsafe I will be out there with u guys both in may and august I can't wait to finally track the V again.

I do understand this i am just curious what everyone would prefer,
how do you guys feel about miller for our first west coast V-day and then we can go to different tracks different years, I would love to run laguna seca when I am a more experienced driver, we need a track that is will satisfy most of the owners,
So if we did miller who would be in? idk if we would do it this year or the next?

You guys are killing me! I move to the east coast and you're planning a meet up in my old backyard. Oh well, at least I might be able to play in the V day they have out here.

Oh yeah, I'm at Lindsay Cadillac now. Glad to be close enough now to do something besides order parts over the phone.

Rob, glad to hear you're safe out there in the far east.

If you are referriing to the HOD event above, they are saying if you have run other tracks before you're ok. If you've never tracked before that is not the event for you...

Ahh yes. I see now. New to the track, not new to the track. lol

That said, it seems as if most of those who have replied thus far have track experience. It does suck how much that weekend costs though. Over double what I usually pay but still sounds like a really good option.

Great to hear now would like to hear this from more members, I will try to get some calls going and figure out pricing and how we should go about tackling this, I am still very excited for may though! I am thinking of inviting any kind of car guy so we can just be able to book the whole day would everyone be ok with just a bunch of car guys going out there and tracking or should this be V exclusive? haha

I would say you could start this as a Cadillac-exclusive thing (not just V series) and then if you don't get enough guys to fill all the run groups, open it up to whoever would want to go. There could already be people signed up for that track day as well. You might have to check the website and see if they have a list.
