: Best way to sell my V?

First, I hope this doesn't get deleted, not sure of the exact forum rules. Anyhow, I've had my V for over 4 years now and its time to move on to a V2. I'm looking a fellow forum members 2010 manual V. In order to get it, I need to sell mine first.

I plan on listing it on craigslist, cars.com, autotrader and the forums. Is it worth it to put it up on ebay? Anything else I should do to gain exposure?

Thanks guys!

I've heard people having the best luck on craigslist - honestly that's what i plan to do with mine :/

Say it isn't so! But I'll be doing it for a 2010 or 2011 sometime late next year....LOL.

I've found and bought almost every one of my cars on autotrader.com.... by far the best place for cars. Craigslist would be my #2 followed by ebay.

Goin' the hoity-toity route, are you? j/k ... I'm sure you'll love the V2.

The others are a no-brainer, but eBay would be scary without a reserve price you could live with. Then, if it didn't sell, not sure what the cost would be and whether the exposure would be worth eBay's auction fee.

Whatever you do, make sure that your car is so friggin' clean and perfect, that the first guy to come see/drive it absolutely won't be able to walk away from it without making you an offer or it'll haunt the ever-livin' crap out of him for the rest of his life. Works every time I've done it with cars I've sold.

I use craigs and autotrader the most, by far. You can post an ebay classified ad now too as well (not auctioned). Just an idea...

Yeah what others have said...with the V2 prices dropping like crazy it makes me think a little harder with future mods.

I don't regret modding mine. Its a blast to drive. It's just time to move on.

In my car searching it seems like most cars on autotrader are bone stock. I don't think that you will have great luck on autotrader because your car is quite far from stock. I think that craigslist and the forums are your best bet for finding a buyer that can appreciate and accept what you have done to the car.

I'm not sure how much you drive it, but putting a "For sale" sign in the window might get you a lot of attention. All it takes is the right person seeing you drive by to make a sale.

Glad to hear that you are still going to be in the V community even if you are leaving the lowly V1 crowd :hide:

As someone who just sold my V, I can say this:

Craigslist - lots and lots of nibblers, very few takers. That said, since my car was still pretty cherry with a fantastic Luxury CPO warranty for 1.5 more years, I was looking for a premium price. Most nibblers were either dreamers or hardcore lowballers ("Will you take 12K cash, today?")
Cars.com - much more serious buyers, and from all over the country.
Autotrader - second to Cars.com. Buyers were just as serious but a lot fewer.
I posted here too but don't think I got any serious buying traffic from it. However, serious buyers who were looking for a V usually already knew the forum and found it comforting to see it listed here as well.

I actually ended up selling to someone out-of-state which, when I first decided to sell her, I never even envisioned. In the end, a dozen serious almost buyers were all out of state (I'm in FL) and only 1 was relatively local. That really surprised me.

I had thought about that. With the amount to questions and looks I get, I may be able to find an impulse buyer.

I may have to bite the bullet and put the FS sign on.

When I was car shopping... with the V on the short list... I found AutoTrader to be a PITA to search for the V because it's not listed on the dropdown of models for Cadillac, only a CTS. so, when you post your ad, make sure you put "CTS-V", "CTSV", CTS V", "V", and like at the end of your description so people find it separately from the CTS ads. Otherwise, you have to search CTS between the years of '04-'07, put the highest price at the top, and scroll through all of the CTS ads just to make sure you didn't miss any ads that didn't have "V" in the description.

FWIW, I found my V on Autotrader.

JimmyH
03-06-11, 01:58 PM
It's just as well, since I have seen CTS-V listed as CTS, and vice versa. If you want to be thorough, you need to browse all the CTS listings.

I will vote for cars.com as that is my primary way of looking up vehicles i am interested in purchasing. Also, you never know who at a dealer service center is looking to pick up a cherry V. I had dealer sales guy said he knew someone who would offer 26k if i wanted to sell it on the side, while the dealer would offer 21k for trade in value. Not ready to get rid of it, yet wanted to know where i stood on actual value for stock w/ moon roof.

The car has no apparent flaws, except possibly fuel economy. But it is at least as good as any of its competition so that is unlikely to cause a resale issue in and of itself.

Eh, you should be able to search for manual trans + V8. That will give you Vs. For the new one the criteria would be the same, because no self respecting enthusiast would go for the slushbox V.

JimmyH

True but the v has a very limited market.

true, forgot about adding in manual trans (and V8), but, often times, you find cars not listed correctly. maybe that's a reason not to buy it?

might point is, just to be on the safer side of people finding your ad, add the "V" in the description so that it's only 1 element to find. AutoTrader should just add CTS-V to their drop down (along with many other vendors!). it is a different car. otherwise, might as well not have S4 or RS4... and just have A4 for an Audi.

I found mine on autotrader.com, there was all of 2 CTS-Vs within 75 miles under 35k when i was looking 4-5 months ago:shhh: Shouldnt be hard to sell i would think, they sell pretty quick.

I searched ebay, autotrader, auto-rv and cars.com for 3 months before I found my V in North Carolina. I think I found the winner on cars.com now that I think about it.

Thanks. Once my V sells it will be between a V2 and a new Ford Raptor. Those trucks are bad ass.

At any rate, i'll stick around here for a long time.

Yeah, it would be a fully loaded 6.2 Raptor. No way i'd do the old 5.4.

Once my car sells I'll see which makes more sense. I have a hard on for both vehicles. Plus, i'll already be used to the motor in the Ford...(get it, a truck motor)

But we did trade in the wife's 2010 SRX on a loaded 2010 6.2 Raptor! That adds up to about 886hp and 909tq between her and my daily drivers. :highfive:

We dont have any good pictures yet but will get some this weekend.
