This story is a bit old and you might have heard it before, however I am posting the story here for the people that don't have heard it yet!

A woman from Soweto rented a Citroen C4 in Johannesburg. She drove from Johannesburg to Bloemfontein ..
Approximately 220km from JHB the car stopped .........still in 1st gear!!
SHE THOUGHT IT WAS AUTOMATIC!

Almost looks like an engine fire. Driving it in 1st gear should not do that.

Looks to me like the sound insulation material on the underside of the hood melted! I wouldn't think that running the car in first would burn up the engine! Especially since the exhaust amnifold heat shield doesn't appear very discolored.

No way. Every stop would require depressing the clutch. 220km with no stops? Not. And if the engine stalled, it would not start without pressing that mysterious 3rd pedal. I call BS.

As I said before I am not sure it is real or fake, and it can be simply a hoax, as some of folks are saying so based on observing the damages to the engine compartment. Anyway, I posted this story just because it is funny, not matter it is real or fake! :D

There is no way anybody is that stupid. I mean even if this woman had never seen a stick shift in her life, or didn't know how to drive one, she'd have a hell of a time trying to get it moving from a stop.

Perhaps it's hard to believe for a reason...

I have to agree with you. I've seen engines where some idiot selected the wrong gear and blew it apart. They don't look like this. This looks like an engine fire, similar to an F250 Ford I saw where a high pressure fuel line broke loose and sprayed gas everywhere.

I've seen some car fires that go t so hot that every aluminum part in the engine bay melted like lead solder. Pretty wild...
