Hi,

I was wondering if I might have some advice. I have been offered a 1996 Sedan DeVille by a member of the family. It is very clean, and has only 68K miles on it. One of my friends who knows about cars said that the 1996 had some reliability problems that were ironed out with the 1997, and that it is best to wait and look for a 1997. I have looked around the net and have not found anything about this, and was wondering if anyone here might be able to help. So my question is: Is the 1997 DeVille significantly better or more reliable than the 1996?

Many thanks to you all,

John

They are basically the same car, same engine, just the 94-96 DeVille had fenderskirts over the rear wheels, as well as some styling differences. I would go for that 96 and stay away from a 97 because 97 was the first year of the new body style and you will likely pick up some "body change problems." I heard about 94-96 Devilles having some sort of suspension problems but I am not sure if it is for all of them and if the problem is just shocks going out or what, but do a search for "Deville Suspension Problems." Hope this helps you out, some of the other members who are more familar with these two Devilles would give you more information.

I am not real familiar with the '96 but I don't think there is any difference other than cosmetic. I am not aware of any "problems" the '96 had that the '97 didn't.

Go with which ever has the lowest miles... The only real difference between a 96 and a 97 is the style which is a little different.

:coolgleam The 97 looks better inside and out
