Cadillac (http://autoblog.com/make/cadillac) is preparing to launch a new flagship sedan based on the XTS Platinum concept (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/xts) that will replace both the STS (http://autoblog.com/tag/sts) and DTS (http://autoblog.com/tag/dts) sedans in the luxury automaker's lineup. Our trusty spy photographers recently caught this camouflaged prototype within GM (http://autoblog.com/make/gm)'s testing facility, showing that the car has skipped the normal test mule phase and gone right to what's called the IVER - Integration Vehicle Engineering Release - stage.

During its move from concept to production, the XTS has lots its frameless window design in favor of more traditional pillars, including a proper B-pillar construction. Still, the shape and placement of the door cut lines seem to be identical to the concept, as does the rake of the C-pillar.

Since the production XTS will ride on the same Epsilon II architecture that underpins the Buick LaCrosse (http://autoblog.com/model/lacrosse), expect the production car to be front-wheel drive, though it's likely that an all-wheel-drive variant will be offered once the car hits showrooms. See the prototype for yourself in our high-res gallery below.

Not XTS...

...which is not less exciting though!

This cheap lexus-knockoff will never replace my STS_V8!
Cadillac just lost a customer.

I still can't see what makes so many people think that it's an ATS. The hood is TOO FLAT, and the rear deck is TOO LONG. For that to be the size of the ATS, those wheels would have to be 15's! The biggest giveaway is the lower rockers...they are IDENTICAL to the XTS concept.

That's an XTS folks (if it's even a Cadillac at all).

Judging by the taillights and profile, I'd suspect it's actually not a Cadillac at all, but rather the new Chevy version of the G8 sedan.

Judging by the taillights and profile, I'd suspect it's actually not a Cadillac at all, but rather the new Chevy version of the G8 sedan.

I totally agree that the taillights look all wrong, but it's definitely not the Commodore body (that the "Caprice" will be), the greenhouse is completely different (look at the side window profile), and the rear deck is sloped. One thing that makes me think that this could be a RWD Zeta-based car is the fixed calipers up front and sliders in the rear (like the top-level Zeta sedans all have). Almost everything about it fits the XTS profile except for the fact that it appears to be RWD and the apparent taillight shape. I know that cover is designed to throw us off, but even just looking at the light pattern, it's not right.

Now that I think about it, the rear calipers are positioned wrong for Zeta. Looking at all the GM platforms I know of, the only one that has its brake calipers positioned the same was as this mystery car is Sigma, which would seem to indicate that this is the next CTS, or that it is XTS, and everyone was wrong about XTS being FWD (which seems way too good to be true).
