View Full Version : Joy of Music Band Instrument Drive -- Memorial to our friend JD Dirt_Cheap_Fleetwood

01-24-11, 03:31 PM
When our friend JD (aka Dirt_Cheap_Fleetwood) died last march, his friends here generously donated more than $1,000 that went to his local Boy Scouts chapter where he had been a member.

JD was trumpet player from elementary through high school, and his Dad has launched a band instrument drive in JD's memory. The Joy of Music Band Instrument Drive (http://joyofmusicbandinstrumentdrive.webs.com/) is collecting instruments for the Woodridge Illinois Elementary School District 68 band programs, so kids who can't afford to buy or rent an instrument can play in a school band program.

Several of us met JD's Dad and other family members at his wake and funeral, and besides his love of cars in general and Cadillacs in particular, JD loved to share the gift of music.

If you have an instrument you'd like to donate and you're in the Chicago area, the event is from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, March 12, at Thomas Jefferson Junior High School, 7200 Janes Avenue in Woodridge.

If you don't have an instrument or live elsewhere, you can send a donation, which will be used to repair or purchase additional instruments for the band programs. Send a check with "Joy of Music" on the note line to:

Woodridge Organization of Music Parents (WOMP)

There's an article (http://woodridge.patch.com/articles/honor-late-dgn-jefferson-alum-with-the-joy-of-music-instrument-drive) in the Woodridge paper about JD and the instrument drive. JD had a lot of friends here, and some of us were lucky enough to know him in person and take his Cadillac for a spin. This is a nice way to honor his memory.

Free bump!

I like the logo with the wheels on the trumpet. All it lacks is a wreath and crest hood ornament on the mouthpiece.

With GM the way it is now, they'd probably sue...

Really? You're going to ruin this thread with that?

I think it's a great cause. I'll try and send a small donation next week if my refund check from school arrives.

Sounds like a great, and fitting way to honor his life. I hope it's an overwhelming success.

Thanks for posting this, Gary. Hard to believe he's been gone nearly a year now.
